Dick and Carol Holdstock to UK

Husband and wife duo Dick and Carol Holdstock sent this email to friends, and they accepted my offer to post it here. To throw in my 2 cents worth, I've known them for around 17 years, and they are fine performers, very knowledgeable about the music they perform, and wonderful people! You might know them from previous trips to the UK, or you might know Dick from his other duo, "Holdstock and Macleod."

"This September and October Carol and I will be in the UK and Europe again and we hope to find a few gigs. We live in California and do a wide variety of material but specialize in west coast North American music of the sea. Carol is from San Francisco, and I'm from Kent. We have come to England for folk events and to visit family every other year or so.

We do not need to be paid a great deal, we work hard and on time, but really love to get accomodations. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

For more information please visit our website, http://dickholdstock.com, and talk to Ingrid and Barrie Temple, and our good friends Dave Webber and Anni Fentiman."

I'll have to add my two cents worth too. Wonderful folks & great singers & musicians. Here's a link to their site. Check out there CD's I've been lifting songs from Dick for well over a decade, or maybe even two. They do put on fantastic show.

I've also known Dick and Carol for many years. You UK 'Catters, don't miss the chance to hear these two wonderful musicians. Better yet, sing with them.

Best regards,
Ray

Thanks for putting up the link, Barry. I'm a 20th-century man on a 21st century site.

Thanks for offering to them, growler. They're not Mudcat members, so they can't PM you. If you click on Barry's link, you'll find their direct contact info, if you could, I'm sure they'll appreciate it.

I remember hearing Dick Holdstock singing shanties at the San Diego Folk Festival back in 1976. His voice drew me in and got me interested in sea music. Since then I've had the pleasure of getting to know Dick (and Carol) - you couldn't meet a nicer bloke and a real gentleman to boot.

It's nice to hear the good things being said about Carol and I. We have many irons in the fire at this time but because we made our decision to do the trip so late we have yet to land a gig. We plan to start our trip in Austria around September 10, and end up for a week or two in Britain visiting friends and family beginning September 17. In the past we have always had enough gigs in UK to make the trip especially good fun. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated and quickly followed up on. We can be reached at .

Dick and Carol Holdstock are wonderful people and equally good performers; a mainstay at the Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival for years. David Littlefield

Doug moved to Broadstairs last November, so he probably changed his broadband supplier and took up the new email offer. I sent him an email yesterday and I know he's opened it. Hope this helps and look forward to seeing you soon.

Dave and Anni did a very successful gig at Bingham folk club(near Nottingham) , not too long ago - perhaps you could get them to recommend you there. Bingham also has a website.

Dick, I'm glad things are beginning to gel, gigwise. Maybe Richard Grainger would have something for you if you're going North. I think the Capt. Cook fest is still in late October.

'Fraid not, Chanteyranger. It's moved to the last weekend in May, the Monday of which is a public holiday here. According to Richard, "The festival is held during May because it is a better slot for the event. Whitby had been invaded by Goths during the Oct weekend and nothing worked for us."

Unfortunately, that's a weekend that we're never available due to our village custom taking place then, so the Captain Cook Festival is off for us, I'm sorry to say.

Not much help, Dick and Carol - hope you manage to find some more work here.

Barbara

Thank You Barbara and Shanty Ranger. We are in touch with Richard and he will help if he can. Things are already shaping up for us and we still have to hear from some good prospects.
