16 Mar 07 - 06:12 PM (#1999049) Subject: RE: BS: Is this cruel ? From: Bee The cats are NOT painted. The images are manipulated in a graphics program such as Photoshop. See Snopes. Or just look closely at the pictures. |

16 Mar 07 - 06:27 PM (#1999060) Subject: RE: BS: Is this cruel ? From: Jeri The Snopes page on painted cats. Some of these Photoshopped kitties are lovely. If they HAD been painted (with non-toxic paint, I'd hope), it would probably be more humiliating than cruel, but the cats had undoubtedly done something worse to an even smaller creature. |

I think it would depend on the reaction of the individual cat. But in a vaguely amusing sort of way, it really is kinda tasteless. . . . Don Firth Transferred from another thread. |

16 Mar 07 - 06:41 PM (#1999075) Subject: RE: BS: Is this cruel ? From: Bee I think some of them are very nicely executed. My own cat came with a pretty nice paint job. The vet calls him a 'marble tabby', which in his case is black with lovely warm grey-buff markings in stripes, spots, arcs, and patches, and a classic tabby face. Couldn't possibly be improved on, IMO. ;-) |

17 Mar 07 - 02:15 AM (#1999302) Subject: RE: BS: Is this cruel ? From: Liz the Squeak There was a calendar of these pictures available in the UK. When you see them close up, it's obvious that they are not painted cats but a photoshop creation. They are pretty, but I'm sure they will give someone with more money than sense, the sick idea to paint their cat with whatever is to hand. As for 'repainted every few months as their fur grows out'... given how fastidious cats are, I'm surprised it takes that long. The kitty would be cleaning continuously to get rid of the paint or dye, possibly pulling their own fur out to get rid of it as I've seen cats do when they've been accidentally coated in a foreign substance. I like the peacock kitty though! LTS |

17 Mar 07 - 09:10 AM (#1999432) Subject: RE: BS: Is this cruel ? From: Mooh If there were hunters about, damn straight the cat and dogs would be painted orange or kept inside. Otherwise, cruel it is. Does it cease to be cruel if there are advertising dollars involved...like if I rented out the cat as a roaming billboard? Peace, Mooh. |

17 Mar 07 - 01:39 PM (#1999568) Subject: RE: BS: Is this cruel ? From: Dead Horse I painted my dog with whitewash once. Poor thing, it died of distemper :-) I also decided to give an old budgie a new coat of paint. That too died. It wasn't the paint that killed it, it was using the blow lamp to remove the old paint. |

From: RangerSteve I saw a woman on 5th Ave. in New York City who had two French Poodles, both with those ridiculous haircuts that make them resemble a sculpture made of barbells. One dog was dyed baby blue, the other was pink. I hope they turned on their owner. |

17 Mar 07 - 07:38 PM (#1999795) Subject: RE: BS: Is this cruel ? From: Little Hawk Wow! Fantastic! I'm really surprised that it hasn't occurred to Veronica Rutledge to do this with her cat(s)...if she has any. Mind you, her aunt Penelope would put a stop to it at once. She would consider it cruel and unnatural. |
