GUEST,chinmusic Song for Yankees when they lose (32) RE: Song for Yankees when they lose 11 Oct 04

A word about the Yanks/RedSox series in a moment. I would like to comment on the unfair playing field between the haves, and have nots, in MLB. I noted this morning that the Twins are probably going to lose a few key players this winter, due to free agency. Some are eligible for arbritration, which could further muddy the process. This is simply how CBA operates, but when was the last time a team, say like New York, had to let one of their great young players go because of financial constrictions. Until MLB finds a way to make teams more financially competative, things won't change much. The luxury tax is a joke. Wealthy teams just say to hell with it, and pay the penalty. I am not on the owners, or players side, of this issue, but simply pro fans. Just in passing, what the hell have all the strikes been about over the last thirty years anyway? Things haven't changed much. For all of the success of the smaller market clubs like Oakland and Minnesota, they'll still lose many of their stars when their free agency time comes up. Makes a fan lose heart. End of rant.

Though I hope the Bostons finally defeat the Yankees in a big series, I have no emotional investments in either team. I'm just looking forward to seeing some passionate, and good ball. Keys to the series maybe the state of mind of Marino Rivera, following the accidental deaths of two members of his family, in Panama. I look for Trot Nixon to be a pivotal force for Boston, since I've always admired his grit and ability to come through in the clutch. The health of Curt Schilling's ankle will be another key. For New York, there's always the Derek Jeter factor, and status of their starting pitching over a seven game series. I like the BoSox in 6 games.
