I think you will find Mr Red was referring to the size of a woman's feet visa vis age. The referrence to shoe sizes on offer in shops is clearly a coded method of saying "average" which hardly describes one woman but does refer to "women". And does imply that the "average" size of all parts of human anatomy is increasing.
