Hmm... I did a research project once on the invention of the steamboat, but then, it was originally invented in my town here in Vermont! Robert Fulton holds the patent, but only because he cheated his partener Samuel Morey, a native of Fairlee... Stories are told that Morey sunk his boat in anger in the town lake that bears his name...
As for songs, although my area is rich in the very earliest steam history, there aren't very many sings about it that I know of... Margaret MacArthur sings a few, and might very well know of some more.
