Liz, The Anglo and English have a similar timbre -- it's how they're played that makes the difference. At last weekend's Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival there was a workshop on squeezebox, which featured (among other things): the Irish style of playing the Anglo the Irish style of playing the English the English style of playing the Anglo the legato style of playing the English If you put in the time on either instrument, you'll discover that the possibilities approach infinity.
