kytrad (Jean Ritchie) Hally Wood Tribute in NYC (6) Hally Wood Tribute in NYC 15 Sep 07

Hally Wood lived in New York City and for awhile on Long Island from the late 1940s until 1953. She was deeply interested in southern US traditional songs and music, did many local performances, singing in a unique, expressive, most unforgetable voice. She died in 1989.

Some friends who still live in the area are getting together on September 29, to remember and honor her, and the public is invited. Those who will share memories and stories, sing songs she liked, and be available for visiting with audience members are Oscar Brand, Anna Lomax, Joe Hickerson, John Cohen,Robin Roberts,Frank Davis,Jean Ritchie, George Pickow, and Cynthia Faulk Ryland(Hally's daughter). Those coming if they are able are Pete Seeger, Mike Seeger, Roger Sprung.

After this round, there will be a break for a complimentary light
supper. Bar will be open for purchase of drinks. Then the program will continue with more discussions, songs, the audience joining in with contributions to the discussions, with questions they may have, or with stories and songs to share.

Cost: $45 per person. As the event will be recorded, each ticket holder will be presented with a CD of the program, in addition to supper. None of the performers are being paid, and are in fact buying their own tickets at the cost above, so that this Hally Wood Tribute can take place.

We think that this will be a joyous and even an historical event. We hope to see many of you there!                Kytrad
