Harmony singing - and other has deteriorated considerably in the last three decades, helped inexorably by a three-way assault on Thatcher's war on the coal and heavy industries, Kim Howells' hateful and senseless Licensing Act and the boom in computer games. There's a pub not far from here where the piano was in constant use for community singing.
