Quebec has probably changed but when I went there in the '80s I was not well received. I pulled out a US $10 bill to pay for some food in a shopping center in Lac Megantic. It was probably worth $15 Canadian then. the cashier held it up a screeched Dix, Dix, as if I had pulled out a switchblade but eventually she took the money. Maybe it was the shorts and the Hawaiian shirts my Wife and I were wearing. We noticed all the food containers had French on one side and English on the other. A box of cereal had Smurfs cereal on one side and Les Stroumphs on the other.
