I think the term actress makes more sense than doctress or manageress or "lady lawyer" because of the nature of acting work. Male and female doctors have the same job, and male and female managers have the same job, but male and female actors don't - the men play male characters, and the women play female characters. On the taff side, calling someone a "male nurse" is anachronistic but calling someone a "male prostitute" makes sense, because his gender is relevant to one profession and irrelevant to the other.
