Thanks for those comments, my friends from the White Rose County were gratious in their acceptance of what was in my eyes a very narrow defeat, that being so I took the liberty of taking a photo of Ammon Wrigleys statue in Uppermill, wearing my winning hat with the red roses on it. He smiled and winked! I doubt he does that when they garland him with white roses on Yorkshire day, he having written a book called "Lancashire Idylls"
Here My friends I must mention my retirement from the annual contest, there are many would represent the Red Rose, and I feel I should not monopolise a place. Nice to end on a winning note though, Yorkshire have a fine and very able son in Ray Padgett, who can conduct himself with the utmost dignity after his teams display, no Captain could have done better.
Thank you Yorkshire.....over and out!
