Thanks for those comments, my friends from the White Rose County were gratious in their acceptance of what was in my eyes a very narrow defeat, that being so I took the liberty of taking a photo of Ammon Wrigleys statue in Uppermill, wearing my winning hat with the red roses on it. He smiled and winked! I doubt he does that when they garland him with white roses on Yorkshire day, he having written a book called "Lancashire Idylls" Here My friends I must mention my retirement from the annual contest, there are many would represent the Red Rose, and I feel I should not monopolise a place. Nice to end on a winning note though, Yorkshire have a fine and very able son in Ray Padgett, who can conduct himself with the utmost dignity after his teams display, no Captain could have done better.
