I can go some way to answering that. When Elsecar Pit shut, many of the lads came down to work at the pit where I worked. I recall asking a bloke to stop talking for a moment whilst I got out my Collins English - Dee Daa, Dee Daa - English Phrase book. he said "Stop lakin' abaat or I'll bray thee kite." I said, "Excuse me, could you repeat that in my indigenous language please?" Anyway, by the time I got up again, he had buggered off down the gate. Managed to soak him fully clothed with a hose pipe as he came out of the baths though. Happy days. (Explaining my shiner to the wife took some doing mind.)
