Crowhugger BS: Craftastrophe - a look at creativity (19) RE: BS: Craftastrophe - a look at creativity 13 Aug 12

Thanks Bill D, you made my day. Love that toddlerpede. Okay so yah maybe my sense of humour is a little unconventional... Anyway just had to come say thanks, now I'll go back and enjoy some more weird stuff. Cool.

Eliza it's not too late to learn to crochet. (Thread drift alert:)Have someone show you with some fairly hefty yarn (or better yet something non-stretchy like macrame cord, or a skinny ribbon if you can get it cheaply enough) and a big hook. That makes it easy to see what's happening and really understand how it works. Then just experiment by making something that doesn't matter, like free form Christmas ornaments (later sew on beads or sequins for bling); a puppet monster (aim for roughly a sock puppet but with peculiar, scary face); or abstract sculpture. That abstract sculpture might end up as the a conversation piece tea cosy! Try out all the stitches, see what happens if you do half a row in 1 stitch and the rest in another, learn the difference between crocheting rows vs in the round, try the same fibre with a smaller hook and bigger hook, etc. etc. BTW with sculpture, flexible wire or stiff wire works well lieu of the first row of foundation chain stitch, and lets you give your piece of art either a fixed or changeable shape, depending on the wire you choose.

Now back to regular programming...
