When will they get round to filming Phil Rickman's Merrily Watkins Mysteries for TV? Single-mum-parish-priest-turned-diocesan-exorcist-with-folk-singing-boyfiend-&-pagan-daughter but mostly caught up with solving crimes in the real world - supposing Herefordshire is real - with lashings of spooky / folky / weirdlore and a splendid cast of regular characters besides. As for George Gently - as an ex-pat Geordie I watched it once hoping for lots of familiar location shots around the old country only to be told it was all filmed in Ireland. I've watched it since but always seem to catch the same episode - or so my long suffering wife tells me - my short-term memory keeps me in a constant state of revelation. This one sounds a hoot though - I'll watch out for it on repeat, or else on my in-laws SkyPlus box.
