Reading this thread, I notice that calling Foot an ex Prime Minister isnt the only inaccurate claim here. Spain has made it quite clear that they wouldn't automatically block an application by Scotland to join. Quite so. They made it quite clear that an application is just that, and get to the back of the queue. Don't confuse reality with Salmondbollox. Spain has repeated that it will block any attempt by Scotland for fast track or de facto membership, as that could encourage Catalonia. Catalonia cannot exit Spain, as you cannot put all your Basques in one exit. (Sorry.) Membership application time is about ten years. Oh, and Germany will veto any application that does not adopt the Euro. By the way, the East v West Germany scenario isnt an example Mr McClean. An existing member expanded its borders (legally in Germany's case for the first time in its history,) and changed its name. Both permissable under The Treaty of Rome. It is staggering the bollox the Scottish electorate are being fed.
