The reissue programme began last Tuesday (30th April), with a pair of samplers from the UNESCO catalogue. Since they appear to duplicate stuff which will crop up on later releases, I've put them on one side for the time being. Yesterday however, Smithsonian issued the next two releases; a pair of discs of North Indian vocal music:- North India: Vocal music - Dhrupad and KhyalVarious Artists. UNES08076 North India: Dhrupad Singing by Ustad F. Wasifuddin Dagar. UNES08283 To describe them as stunning would be a considerable understatement, and I think most Indian music buffs would regard them as essential listening - especially when the download price is less than six quid each. http://www.folkways.si.edu/unesco
