Ebbie - "The Laws of the Game were originally codified in England by The Football Association in 1863" -- Wikipedia Governing body still called the FA in England, SFA in Scotland, which has now extended to bodies like UEFA [European FA] & FIFA [worldwide Federation International de FAs]. Used particularly to distinguish from Rugby Football, a handling game with an oval ball. These days, pundits will refer to "Rugby or football", the latter meaning Soccer [which of course derives from 'association'], which strictly is incorrect, as they are both forms of football, & have the word in their names. But I have found it useless to protest ["MGM, your pedantry is legendary!" a friend once wrote in a post]; that's the way the language has gone, and even old King-Canute-MGM has failed to stem the tide... ❤~M~❤
