My neighbor planted some prickly pear. Never do that. Thick,hard boots might protect you from the thorns you can see, but the p.p. also has tiny, sharp filaments which are almost invisible and are hard to get out of your skin.

When the plant is done with the filaments, it sheds them, and wind and rain spread them into nearby soil. Not a good idea.
