So in todays paper there was an article about a large freight company that is 'letting go' of older permanent employees some of whom have worked there for more than 35 years on the grounds that they are unable to do any job anywhere in the freight warehouses. They are claiming that these older workers are medically unfit and are 'dumping' them in favour of younger, disposable casual contract workers. Never mind the experience and skills to be lost, the casuals are just so much cannon fodder and readily replaceable. We seem to be creating more and more McWorkers as cannon fodder for industry and more McJobs to be filled by them. All this gets rationalised in neoliberal language as 'efficiency and flexibility' and lots of other euphemisms as well. Its just good old fashioned bollocks and the guy in the newspaper photos who lost his job at the freight company looked like he had tears in his eyes. Like Roger said above, I hope some of the earlier thread posters are doing better for themselves by now. Cheers, Andrez
