I don't even believe in all that - stuff - but I once heard my mum tell me to slow down, just as though she was sitting in the back seat of the car.

Naturally I put my foot on the brake, and around the corner there was a tractor and trailer and hay bales all over the road. The corner of the trailer was just where I'd have ended up if I'd not slowed down before the corner.

Even though by then it had dawned on my that my mother was long gone I turned around and looked at the back seat - just in case.
