There was a remark some posts back that there was no mention of fake news before September 13th and this was being read as an indication of a conspiracy or organised attempt to create the story (which would make it fake news in an artistically pleasing sort of way)

But that ignores the distinction between things and their names and also how idea spread. In this case we had people talking about lies and propaganda and misrepresentations and distortions being reported in tradional and social media then someone came up with a catchy name for it and everyone started using it. But the spread of the name and the spread of the thing itself are two different things. The September 13th date is about the use of the name not the thing itself.
