Whisky is no use if you're thirsty. To slake your thirst requires something with a lower abv. Beer, Cider, Lager, etc.

Or maybe water . . .

My father used to recite:

Pure water is the finest drink
That man to man may bring,
But who am I, that I should have
The best of everything?
Let prelates revel at the pump,
Peers at the pond make free,
But whisky, wine or even beer
Is good enough for me!

I've lived by that for the past 60 years.
