He was a Briton who was captured by king Niall of the Nine Hostages, and was an enslaved shepard for six years, possibly in Antrim. He escaped to Gaul(France), and became a priest. During his years as a slave he became convinced it was his duty to convert the Irish to Christianity. He managed to do so while respecting old customs and beliefs, and could teach a few things to latter day missonaries.
