Ah, a classic technique. Ask a touchy, loaded and sarcastic question (if you'd actually read through some of the threads and thread titles for the last few days, you'd KNOW this was a touchy subject), get us sniping at one another, and then announce that we're all mean and you don't want to play.
Good grief.
'Catters are all real people (well, except maybe a possum or two). We are all kinds: bright and dull (not too many of those), sweet and sarcastic, easygoing and feisty. We share anecdotes and jokes as well as music, and many members feel the need to discuss important issues with each other. Karen, if you and other guests would look around through the archives, you will see some examples of how the members have come together to love and support one another through times of crisis. It is a supportive, encouraging and stimulating place. That may not be the same as "nice" in the Mr. Rogers sense of the word, but I personally would rather be interested than be around sugar-sweet people all of the time.
I came here first for music. I come here whenever I have a music question. The discussions are great but just a bonus, IMHO. Music brings us together, but even with this diverse a group it cannot occupy 100% of the discussion.
