We are two "folkies" who are coming to Virginia on May 5th. We are spending the first few days in and around Williamsburg and then move towards the Shenandoah Valley on 10th May. We fly back to the U.K. on 13th May. We sing together as "Synchronicity" and wonder if there is anywhere where we might sing while we are over there. Has anyone any (helpful!) suggestions?

I presume you are talking about something other than open mike stuff.

Charlottesville, Virginia has a couple of coffee shops that might be interested. However, because you are an "unknown entity" I can't imagine how you would go about talking your way into a gig there.

The same could be said of Harrisonburg. Both places are "university towns" and have some venues.

I wish I were in a position to promote you at those places; but cannot because I no longer live in the area. Perhaps Mrrzy, (a Virginia Mudcatter,) could be more helpful.

You mention that you are folkies. What manner of folk music do you perform?

Oh, you want HELPFUL suggestions. I was going to say "in the shower" but that's obviously not what you're looking for.

Good luck! Sounds like fun!

Greetings from Virginia! The big college towns may be your best bet (Charlottesville). I'm in Richmond, so I'm going to refer you to Mr. Page Wilson of Reckless Abandon, who does a wonderful show on the Public Radio station here. His site is pagewilson.com and e-mail is Page@PageWilson.com. Maybe he can help you out as far as finding a gig. I'll look for you in May.

If you're interested in swinging by Richmond on the way to the valley, check out the following site and click on the local scenes area (on the right).

Possibly the best search would be for open mike opportunities. If those don't work out, at least stop by Rare Olde Times for a proper pint!

Another thought in Richmond. Terry O'Neil runs Penny Lane Pub down in Richmond. Use the above link to contact him. He's from Liverpool and may be delighted to give you an opportunity to play. Of course, you'll have to talk your way into it, but it occurs to me he may be receptive.

Do you guys have any tapes or demos?
