Subject: Chords Add: SWEET GEORGIA BROWN From: Rick Fielding Date: 08 May 00 - 02:22 AM Hi. Most of the jazz folks I know pick it in "F" but since you mentioned banjo, how about "G"? E7////////A7////////D7////////G///D7/G//B7// E7////////A7////////Em//B7//Em//B7//G//E7// A7/D7/G//(B7)// Rick |
Subject: Banjo chords for Sweet Georgia Brown From: Jeep man Date: 09 May 00 - 02:52 PM I have asked this before and Rick Fielding helped a lot but I need a little more detail on chords for this song. Joe Offer, are you listening? Jim |
Subject: Tune Add: SWEET GEORGIA BROWN From: Mark Clark Date: 30 May 00 - 12:29 AM Jim, I've been playing around with ABC and elected to use your request as an opportunity to try it out. The chords Rick provided in the other thread are the right chords (of course) but they only include the chorus. Here is the ABC notation for the entire tune minus eight bars of intro during which the guitar is silent. If you use the ABC2Win program or some program that prints charts from ABC files, you'll be all set with a lead sheet and chord names. There are even a few extra chords in this one. Interesting to note, G seems to be the original key. I don't know how a jazz player would approach this tune but I would guess that you don't really want the guitar to play four bars of an E7 chord. You probably want to insert suitable substitutes every two beats and sort of follow the melody around. Same for other places where a single chord is indicated for several bars. - Mark

Subject: RE: Banjo chords for Sweet Georgia Brown From: Art Thieme Date: 30 May 00 - 11:52 PM The only time I ever heard this really done well in an old-timey frailing style is on MICHAEL MILES CD called THE MAGIC BANJO. Try: BAnjo@interaccess.com Art Thieme |
Subject: RE: Banjo chords for Sweet Georgia Brown From: Mark Clark Date: 31 May 00 - 12:46 AM Art, I found Michael Miles' homepage and it looks like he has lot's of interesting stuff besides the CD you mention. Does he really do Back on the five string? Does he play classical style banjo? I'm starting to think this is someone we must see. - Mark
