Another steamy one here in Pine Grove Holler... The three horses went thru an entire bath tub of water in two days... No, Capt'n... The horses don't come in the house... The bathtub us outside in the horse field...

But nevermind them horses...

Yeah, it was hot and felt extra good 'cause thr humidity was real high... Yezzir... My kinda weather... Other than gettin' stung my a danged ground hornet I purdy much enjoyed my day weeding and mulchin' and moving watering oscillators... I like it when yer clothes get so saturated with sweat that they are soaked... Then a little breeze comes along and it feels like air conditioning for a second and then it's back to heat and more heat!!!

So...

...put another log on the fire!!!

I'm loving it here in the UK, but heat-soak into the cabin in the turbo Volvo (turbochargers DO run hot) is making me think about getting the aircon fixed in that. Mostly I hate aircon, it makes it too damned cold.

Oh, and my gardener (who DOES have Raynauds syndrome, so is useless in the winter) nearly keeled over last week.

Problem aggravated by refusal to drink water from a beer-glass...

"Yeah, well try running a chainsaw in this heat..." or carrying water to gardens, or moving compost, or mulching with hay, or digging comfrey, all of which is what my boss has on the list for today.

Hi, ranger1.

I turned off the AC and flung open the windows for some freash air early this morning. Ten minutes later, the sudden rise in heat and humidity set off the kitchen smoke detector.

Still, it beats being snowed in for a few days.

Yo, Capt'n...

A recent study showed that tomatoes are 17% smarter than Republicans... I would have thought it to be higher but those were the numbers...

As for our heat??? Just one more day of 90 plus and then 80s... But hopefuully with some needed rain... But back to good ol' hot, sticky summer next week... Bring it on...

Yeah, I must have that Lynard Skinnrd Syndrome that the you was talkin' about, Capt'n... Can't get "Sweet Home, Alabama" outta my head when I'm out there in it??? That one of the symtoms???

Well, lemme get out there... Mr. Sun is allready punched the clock an' waitin' on me...

Yes,it's definitely getting rather hot in Oxfordshire / Buckinghamshire, ; around 88 degrees, which is rather hot for England. We are starting to see the effects of drought, and the use of hose-pipes for garden-watering has been banned in some areas, ie around Liverpool.
The "Met Office" (our official weather service)has issued a warning regarding a "Heatwave" ; it may seem strange to you in the USA, but most European homes do not have any kind of Aircon, and in the last "heatwave" a few years back, thousands of old people in France, for example, died from Hyperthermia. I shall drink plenty of alcohol ( lowers body temperature !) and sit naked in the shower-booth (preferably with Karen ,although that might be counter-productive !).

In SE England my weather station is recording 31c today, which converts to around 86F. That seems nothing compared to what you're experiencing in the States, but it's hot enough for us Brits!! We don't tend to have domestic aircon here, only in the shops and offices so it's better to be at work or in a store. My toms are in a very hot greenhouse but have set quite nicely and it looks like a decent harvest on the way - I use a brand named Moneymaker which does not seem to mind the heat.

I donno... The P-Vine says that I don't feel the heat like other folks 'cause I'm skinny??? That don't make sense... I will say that I don't like a combination of heat and intense sun... I can do one or the other nicely but not both... Tell the Devil that, Capt'n... Maybe he'll take me afterall???

And on our southern (US/Mexico) border, where fences are up or under construction to block people from wading across what normally resembles sort of a dribble of spit, the Rio Grande is flooding due to heavy rains from the recent "almost a hurricane tropical depression" with a new storm beginning to organize with additional heavy rain very soon.

Several large reservoirs are at record levels, and are being forced to release massive amounts of water to protect against failure of the dams. A couple of main bridges, one carrying ~10,000 pedestrains per day AND about 10,000 vehicles has been closed and water is expected to "top the bridge" within the next couple of days. (I think its the near bridge in the picture at the link.)

One town with a population of 40,000 has been evacuated, as have several others with varied sizes reported, but multiple areas with "uncounted squaters" are also being warned and people are "walking out."

No report on "how hot it is" there but weather maps I've been seeing indicate the area has been consistently above 90F (32.2C), regularly up to 98F (37C), with occasiona excursions a bit higher.

One might guess that the humidity is "above normal."

The past two days in my own area have been at quite pleasant temperatures in the low 80F range, but the 99% relative humidity has still made outdoor work a bit stressful for old farts like me. I've been in the process of laying "patio blocks" onto barrier cloth to control the weeds in a corner that can't be mowed with my rider. (Lin thinks I'm making her a patio, but my goal is just weed control.)

It took two days to unload the pallet of blocks that I had dumped into my pick'mup, and another 4 days to lay out ~180 18 lb stones. The first two days were 92F (33.3C) and above, so the 80s the past two days actually were a bit better, despite the humidity.

John

Man, I hated it... I ran outta the mulch I been using in the azalea beds and had to drive 60 miles to Baker, Wes Ginny, with a trailer to get another load... Problem is that the P-Vine wnated to go with me which, of course, meant, air condtioning... Yuck!!!

But we got back in time for me to get in a good three hours of weeding andf mulchin' in 102 temps... Felt mighty good... Didn't want to come into this ice box of a house (72 degress)... I got heavy socks on and a long sleeeved shirt... Burrrrr!!! Maybe I'll move the computer outside fir the summer???

I mean, geeze Louise... I remember last winter... I'll take 102 or 120 any day of the week compared to 30 some inches of friggin' snow, thank you...

Put another log on the fire!!!

It's been fairly cool out here in Seattle, but today the temperature is due to hop into the low nineties. That can get fairly uncomfortable, because with Puget Sound to the west and Lake Washington to the east, it can get rather humid around here.

Temperatures are supposed to go higher still tomorrow and over the weekend.

If this keeps up, all the moss is liable to fall off our north sides!

(Fairly comfortable here in the Bat Cave, however.)

Thread drift... bought this place 2001.07.01 and had to re-shingle the garage. Told my buddies we'd wait until mid-September, just before hunting season. Lined em up for 09.16. It was 36C and near 45H by 10AM. Mid-afternoon, we had to carry one lad off the roof, into the basement and throw water on him. It was by far the hottest day since I had bought the place.

I spoke with my Oregon sister tonight. It is hot down there too and it is expected to be hotter tomorrow and Thursday too. She thinks that Juneau sounds a little TOO cool for her - and she isn't being complimentary. :)

I know what that's like, Tink. When I was 19 and 20 I lived in southern Michigan and we had several heat waves those two summers. I remember what it is like to be in a cool shower and having your back sweat all the while. I'll take Juneau's 60 degrees.

However, this too shall pass... This winter it will be cold. :)
