Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Bill D Date: 19 Dec 08 - 06:10 PM I sang that song with 2 ministers in 1966, in a car, on the way to Mississippi... but we didn't do it like THAT...we couldn't...but we enjoyed singing it. That was a fine bit of singing, Kendall. "More Kendall?" (if there is any...I have LPs & CDs) |

Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 19 Dec 08 - 01:31 PM Being honored by one's peers is the ultimate high. Thanks so much to all of you. I would love to pass along anything that the younger generation wants to use. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Big Mick Date: 19 Dec 08 - 11:41 AM I had seen this one before. What nails me about it, every single time, is the delivery. No matter how good one is, a learned listener can spot the difference between those that are delivering a song, and those that have lived the song. Not to say that the former can't do an accomplished job, but the latter has a certain something that only comes from (in this case) having salt in your face. The voice, my old friend, was stunning, the "turning of the phrase" dead on, and you should be giving thanks for the gift of that voice for however long you had it. No person gets to know what is coming down the pike, so they need to accept their gifts and use them to the best they are able as long as they have them. Judging by what I have seen and heard, you did that very well. Do I wish you still had the voice? Of course. Am I more thankful that I get to hear it, and let my grandkids hear it as an example of a Master at work, you bet your sweet (and wrinkled) old arse. Just don't forget that you have much more to give now. It is fine that we all think you are a great performer, but you have to get these songs into the hands of some youngster. Pass it on, Captain. And to my younger brother-in-spirit, and his adorable kid (who refers to me as Unca Mickey...Mick says with chest puffed up with pride), I say "Good job". You are a special family, and you are a good man for putting this out there. All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Amos Date: 19 Dec 08 - 11:28 AM Wow!! Come on down--it's warm, and dark, and I think I found a soft spot over here where the flooring is starting to give way... A |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: SINSULL Date: 19 Dec 08 - 11:08 AM I hesitate to post to this thread because as Head Kendall Groupie I am somewhat predictable but... in this video, Kendall so obviously loves the song and lets it be itself. No fancy warbles or key changes or flourishes. Just a beautiful song sung by a man who loves it. Perfect and definitely a chick magnet. Move over Amos. I am joining you in the cellar. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: maeve Date: 19 Dec 08 - 11:00 AM I've heard you in person and on recordings many times over the years, Kendall. I'm with Dan on this one. maeve |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Dan Schatz Date: 19 Dec 08 - 10:50 AM Well, the video did everything possible to prevent itself from being heard by you, Kendall. You can hardly blame it for finally succumbing to your technical ministrations. I understand the bittersweet quality of hearing yourself. On the other hand, the times I have heard you perform in the last few years have been amazingly powerful for me - not because of the quality of your voice, but because of the quality of your person. Somehow your Self has seemed even more present than in the past. I think of you and Jacqui singing "Phoebe Snow" at the Getaway, or the concert you did with Utah. It's like without your vocal abilities, you've got nothing to prove and you can simply be, relying completely on the feeling of words. When you have that, you've really got it - and nothing will ever take it away. I like the video a lot. It's a wonderful performance. But still, I'd take the real live Kendall any day over some old video. Dan |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Amos Date: 19 Dec 08 - 09:46 AM Kendall: Mixed feelings indeed!! :D A |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: bfdk Date: 19 Dec 08 - 09:36 AM I suppose there's no way anybody can surpass Spaw's praise earlier, so I'll just settle for a lame 'Well done, thanks for sharing'. Loved the song already from the CD and seeing it done 'live' - sort of, with a bit of time delay, anyway - was a lovely treat. Bente |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: jacqui.c Date: 19 Dec 08 - 09:13 AM I loved it! It was a bit scratchy on the machine I'm using but it was great! I'm missing the old bugger anyway so that was a nice treat. Amos - any more talk of chick magnets and you'll be under the cellar floor! Dan - thanks for putting that on and tell Kiran that Nanny Jacqui thinks he has excellent taste. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 19 Dec 08 - 06:54 AM Hearing myself sing is a case of mixed feelings since I lost my voice. Kinda like watching your Mother-in-law drive your new car over a cliff. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Will Fly Date: 18 Dec 08 - 08:37 AM Quite! |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 18 Dec 08 - 08:32 AM Shouldn't this be in the horse shit section? It has no relationship to music. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Will Fly Date: 18 Dec 08 - 04:59 AM Great video, Kendall - are you sure you didn't do this one as well? :D Kendall |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 18 Dec 08 - 02:58 AM My son was playing around my study this morning. "Hey Damian," I said, "You want to see my friend Kendall?" "Okay," said he. He listened and watched intently and then said, "More Kendall!" So we watched it again. "Kendall. Again?" he requested. So we watched it a third time. "MORE Kendall!!" So I put on the Folk Legacy Lights Along the Shore LP. He's listening to it now. (And occasionally shouting PEANUT BUTTER JELLY - but in between songs he says, "More music!") He's 32 years of age. Thanks, Dan for posting and thanks Kendall for a great performance. Seamus |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: maeve Date: 18 Dec 08 - 02:32 AM I look forward to being able to see this someday, Kendall. I'd like to meet Kiran someday, as well! "More Kendall!" LOL maeve |

Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 17 Dec 08 - 07:36 AM I got it. Following their instructions I downloaded Flash player and up it comes. Joe, you are quite right. The lighthouse is in Cape Elizabeth but it is called Portland Head Light. Probably because it sits on Portland Head. Commissioned by that old terrorist, George Washington himself. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 17 Dec 08 - 07:24 AM I still can't play the damn thing! It plays on Jacqui's lap top but it sounds like a fly under a shingle. |

Subject: Cape Elizabeth Lighthouses From: Joe Offer Date: 16 Dec 08 - 11:01 PM The information accompanying the video identifies the lighthouse as Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse. While the two lighthouses in the video are on or near Cape Elizabeth, they are not usually called that. The one on land is the Portland Head Light, and the one in the water is Ram Island Ledge Light. Cape Elizabeth Light is at the end of the Cape, and is actually Two Lights, except that the Coast Guard royally screwed up the rear one. Edward Hopper painted both Portland Head and Two Lights. Owl's Head Light is also on Cape Elizabeth, as is Portland Bug Light. The area is a lighthouse lover's Paradise. -Joe- |

Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 16 Dec 08 - 08:57 PM Amos, I'm still married and although it is too late to die young, it's never TOO late to die. I am allowed to flirt shamelessly though. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 16 Dec 08 - 08:55 PM Thanks Dan. Modesty prevented me from posting it. Joe, back in 1976, NBC Today visited all 50 states and did a short program on each of them. They went to Folk Legacy records and asked who they would recommend to represent Maine, and they said Kendall Morse. They interviewed me, and when I learned that they did not want an imitation character I agreed to do it. They chose the most photogenic lighthouse in America, and the rest is history. I had just gotten that Apollo 12 string guitar and wasn't very good on it yet. As for the song, that was my Grandfather's favorite song and we sang it at his funeral. It was recorded on Folk Legacy FSI 57. I think it is still available on tapes and I believe Sandy would make a CD if anyone wanted one. There are others songs in it too of course. |
