Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: bill\sables Date: 18 May 01 - 09:41 AM Hi All Gatherers, Just arrived at Bill's with instrument and looking forward enormously to a great weekend, See you all soon! All the best, mooman (ex-mcmoo) |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Noreen Date: 18 May 01 - 08:13 AM To repeat Bill's instructions from the first thread : Chapel Haddlesey is a crossroads between Selby and the M62 on the A19. It is very easy to get to as it is near the A1 and M62. So any U.S. or Oz catters just follow the M62 from Manchester airport, or those of you coming from Europe to Hull just follow the M62 the other way. Geordies and Scots come down the A1 to the M62 and turn left and Southerners come up the A1 or M1 as far as the M62 and turn right. You Can't Miss It. Bill |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Noreen Date: 18 May 01 - 07:52 AM JohnJ, come off the M62 at Jct 34 and head north towards Selby. When you get to Chapel Haddlesey, (Alan, I thought my map had spelled it wrong too!) slow down, there is a right turning down which you can see The Jug. If you drive too fast you'll miss it! Seee you all soon. Noreen |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: John J Date: 18 May 01 - 07:40 AM I'll be driving North from the M62; can someone give me directions to the boozer? Should we wear name badges??? |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Patrish(inactive) Date: 18 May 01 - 07:03 AM I cannot concentrate on my work - I keep looking at the clock and wishing it would say 5.00pm. Hope to see you all about 7ish. Tombola and raffle stuff packed. So (sorry Bill) is the melodeon. Patrish |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: GUEST,Lanfranc at the orifice Date: 18 May 01 - 04:55 AM Are you ready for this, Chapel Haddlesey (funny, for weeks I've been pronouncing it "Chapel Haddesley" - dyslexia lures!)? For the benefit of anyone confused by Noreen's post, I'm going to tuck the Beatles songbook into my guitar case, 'cos Noreen sings these traditional Liverpool airs beautifully, and I fully intend to ruin the show by busking along on my phonofiddle (or whatever instument I can cram into the boot of the Scooby after Elizabeth's packed her wardrobe for the weekend). We seem to be the only B&B customers - I do hope that the proprietors of the Ivy House are not of the "You've got to be in by 10, lights out 10.15, breakfast 7 to 7.30" variety. If they are, I'll have to blame Bill Sables, it was his recommendation! Looking forward to some good craic, and to putting some three-dimensional faces to names. Working on ideas for the tombola (auction?). Both the missus and I were born in Yorkshire, so there shouldn't be any language difficulties. See you tomorrow early pm. Alan

Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Linda Kelly Date: 18 May 01 - 03:56 AM OH bloody hell-I've become a tombola obsessive now! Everything in my house is being eyed up as a potential prize -John says I should leave the bloody Dyson out of it as we still have carpets to vac. At least I've bought something sensible for the raffle (which is most unlike me). well I'm packing off the dog to kennels now -always have a guilt trip about this so she's on about her fifth bag of chewie whatsits as compensation -see ya tonite!!! |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: GUEST,Skipjack Date: 17 May 01 - 09:25 PM Once I've hauled ass out of London later this morning, I've to hit Leeds, and then play a beer festival in Brigg, Lincolnshire, and work Saturday in the garden at home, then hit the gathering late pm Sat. Sorry about my state. I saw this e-cafe on Oxford Street and couldn't resist it. Skipjack |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Geoff the Duck Date: 17 May 01 - 08:15 PM You are all up late. Shouldn't you be geting some sleep? I do not sleep any more, the twins do not allow it. I have been awake since they got us up at 5.00am yesterday morning (Rowan managed to dial the police at 5.30 - they phoned us back minutes later!). We are just about packed - the caravan has been at the Jug since Wednesday teatime. To quote some '60's telly or film, I forget which, "expect the unexpected!!!!!!!!" Can you quote something you cannot remember???? Who cares??? Quack!!! Geoff.

Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Noreen Date: 17 May 01 - 07:56 PM I'm not making the obvious comment Madame Duck- I'll leave that to someone else- but it could well be a real 'scatch' band as Lanfranc is bringing the dots with him... don't know if they're catching... |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: John Routledge Date: 17 May 01 - 07:47 PM You are a gentleman and a scholar Tyke. GB |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Cobble Date: 17 May 01 - 07:43 PM Mrs Duck, do you remember where the toilet is? I do I only fell out of it. **BG** Cobble. |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Tyke Date: 17 May 01 - 07:36 PM It is looking more and more likly that I will be there on Saturday and I will bring my Laptop. So do not worry! Mrs.Duck! |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Dave Wynn Date: 17 May 01 - 06:26 PM I will check with DtG he usually has a laptop or two handy.... Spot |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Mrs.Duck Date: 17 May 01 - 05:32 PM Thanks I D sadly the one thing I haven't been able to fix is the computer. I wanted to use my laptop but can't get it to recognise a mic or rather it does but won't record. Syd's is not suitable and that means we can't manage the live paltalk session I had hoped for unless someone out there has a laptop they can bring. Syd has already said we can use the line. |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Linda Kelly Date: 17 May 01 - 05:19 PM Mrs duck, if it's not been said before -you are a bloody marvel!!!!! |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Mrs.Duck Date: 17 May 01 - 05:16 PM THINGS TO REMEMBER Beer money Suitable carry out vessel for beer to ceilidh Torch for late night excursions Tombola prizes paracetamol scarves and skirt for belly dancing instruments where the toilet is your name The words Most people are arriving tomorrow evening with one or two more coming on Saturday. The programme very elastic but I am hoping things will get underway properly by about nine with a general music session in one room and a carrotoke in another(basically a singaround with added vitamins). Of course that doesn't mean you have to wait until nine but I thought folk might need a bit of time for erections etc. Saturday morning breakfast will be available from about 9.30 - 10.30. Please tell Val if you want to order. The belly dancing workshop will be in the marquee sometime around middayish depending on when Patrish is ready. The custard workshop will hopefully be mid afternoon outside somewhere as it can be messy!! At some time during the afternoon there will be Morris dancing by Terpsichore (Northwest) and Castleford Longsword There will be a barbeque around fiveish (£5 per head) which gives you time to get ready for the ceilidh at 7pm until 10pm which will feature the wonderful Mudcat scratch band and a solo jig performed by the Duck himself! Then its all back down the pub!!! Singing and playing will go on all day as and when you want. Sunday breakfasts will be available from about ten and again should be ordered from Val. There is a Sunday market close by which you may wish to visit or simply carry on singing and playing!! The Parting Glass singaround will start at around 12.30 but noone needs to hurry off. All of the above is subject to change at the drop of a hat and the whim of the masses. Its your weekend! Have fun! |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Linda Kelly Date: 17 May 01 - 04:47 PM I can guarantee that everyone will want to win the Tombola Prize that I am bringing -its that groovy!!! |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Mrs.Duck Date: 17 May 01 - 04:10 PM I've got a 14 year old boy John. Do we introduce them or keep them apart?:) There may well be other teenagers for at least part of the weekend too. |

Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: JeZeBeL Date: 17 May 01 - 01:54 PM I'm just past being a teenager.....do I count. Look, I'll speak to her. I hated folk music for about 18 years of my life!! Only just realised about 8 months ago how cool folk music can be!! Yes I actually used folk music and COOL in the same sentence, It can be done I tell you. See y'all tomora!! Emma xxx |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: John J Date: 17 May 01 - 12:59 PM My daughter is coming this weekend: she's 13 years old, going on 23, and thinks folk music / song is seriously uncool. She bringing a friend with her so she doesn't suffer on her own. Any other teenagers going to be there? John |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Tig Date: 17 May 01 - 12:24 PM Well, we all make mistakes sometimes Prew. In fact your Mum is doing a brilliant job sorting out the weekend so go against the behaviour of your peer group and CARRY ON BEING NICE TO HER!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: lady penelope Date: 16 May 01 - 03:06 PM Disaster has struck!! They've cancelled my last few lesson of my evening A level course, so now I've got to finish it on my own and am having humungous panic attack about getting it all done!! Almost needless to say, I won't be coming this weekend. Woe is me, cos I was really looking foward to this. But I know I'd end up being a miserable git and would start stressing over everything. Have a great time everyone and don't let Micca drink ALL the cider. I'll be thinking of you ( dramatic sniff ! ) TTFN M'Lady P. |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: JeZeBeL Date: 16 May 01 - 02:00 PM That's fine Micca. I think I can still recognise you. But maybe not as you will be sober...........I hope!! GOOD NEWS EVERYONE.....SPOKE TO SAM PIRT TODAY AND HE WILL BE HERE THIS WEEKEND, BUT NOT FOR ALL OF IT AS HE HAS TO GO TO A DAY OF DANCE WITH HIS MUM ON SATURDAY, THINK SHE'S GOT HIM WRAPPED AROUND HER LITTLE FINGER!!!! HE'LL BE THERE ANYWAY, SO FEAR NOT!! Emma xxx |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Mrs.Duck Date: 16 May 01 - 01:38 PM SILLY! |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Les from Hull Date: 16 May 01 - 01:28 PM I've got my silly stuff all ready. I've even got another of what Glossup Paul got at New Year (if you can remember) another T***n S*t!
Examples of things to bring - unwanted gifts; Here I am suggesting that Mudcatters have silly ideas. What am I like? Les |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Mrs.Duck Date: 16 May 01 - 01:15 PM Les I think its a great idea to have a silly tombola as long as we get enough stuff-we could always bring our wedding presents!!!!!!!!!!!!Seriously if anyone wants to bring some stuff I could possible persuade Alec to run it with Maddie#s help |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Mrs.Duck Date: 16 May 01 - 12:55 PM Ah!My daughter thinks I am a pretty face! She'll be really upset when she relises the veiled compliment in there!!! |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Micca Date: 16 May 01 - 12:34 PM You try rhyming the River Bloody Aire!!!!! Lol |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Tig Date: 16 May 01 - 12:31 PM Just one problem there Micca - it's the River Aire, not the Humber at the bottom of the field. |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Micca Date: 16 May 01 - 12:28 PM got bored at work and the beginning of this turned up.. Llanstock III Almost heaven, going to Yorkshire Lots of Mudcats by the Humber river Up the A1 Then the A nineteen Then the Jug back garden For that Mudcat scene Country roads take me there To the place I belong Chapel Haddesley, Yorkshire gathering Take me there country Roads |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: mytoycar Date: 16 May 01 - 11:52 AM unwanted instruments, could I put mother in for that "roll up roll up, get your mother here. And at only 2 ginnies its a bargin. but beware she isnt just a pretty face, oh no ladies and gents she is jeckle and hyde. loverly when intoxicated, dreadful when sober... tash :o)x |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Les from Hull Date: 16 May 01 - 07:43 AM Unwanted instruments? Isn't that an oxymoron, or at least one of those things were the two words don't fit togther (like military intelligence)? Another fun(d)raiser might be a daft tombola. If we all brought things that wouldn't make much of a raffle prize, we could do a tombola with them. I've already collected some stuff, so don't leave me on my own here. Les |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: bill\sables Date: 16 May 01 - 07:34 AM Noreen has got a D/G melodeon and a couple of recorders for sale and I'm sure I can find one or two banjos, autoharps, mandolins etc. They don't have to be cheepies and any melodeons that don't sell would burn well at the campfire Bill |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Mrs.Duck Date: 16 May 01 - 07:17 AM iT WILL BE A VERY TIGHT SQUEEZE jOAN ESPECIALLY IN THAT HAT OF kEVINS!.oops But tell him to come afterall by Saturday we'll only be warming up!!! Bill made a suggestion about having an instrument sale during the weekend. If you have any unwanted instruments that another 'catter may wish to purchase bring them along and if they get sold make a small donation to funds (your choice how much) What do you think? |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: Joan from Wigan Date: 16 May 01 - 02:22 AM Mrs Duck, will there be room for another caravan please? It's not for me (I'm already fixed up with b&b) but some other friends from the Wigan area, Kevin & Hilda Foy. They are the ones organising the Coppull Folk Festival on the first weekend in June (to which any and all Mudcatters are invited, and I will be renewing the thread shortly). Kevin's away on a walking holiday and will only be back Friday, so it's likely to be Saturday before they arrive. Can I tell them there will be space? They're not on the internet yet, so they're relying on me for contact. Joan |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE ALMOST THERE From: bill\sables Date: 15 May 01 - 06:29 PM Sam told me he couldn't make the gathering on the Saturday but he will be there on Friday and Sunday Les the bass would be good for the ceilidh |
