You know what? I was sort of thinking about this the other day, only realizing that I have already DONE several things I wanted to do. It made me happy to think it. But there are a few more things I would like to accomplish:

See Ireland

See Scotland and eat a real haggis and not one in a can

Take a dogsled trip

Learn to paint like I actually know what I'm doing

And there's one more thing I just can't tell you about. ;)

No apologies needed, gnu. It was an honest misunderstanding. That was big of you, though, and I appreciate it.

I hope you succeed in realizing your "before you die" wish.

Skipjack told me that jigigig means "casual sex" in Italian. I have never met Skipjack in person. However, he and I are in agreement that the accordion is a very sexy instrument. If you want to see a pictorial example of this, buy a copy of the "Mudcat (nearly) nude calendar" when it comes out.

To crew on a square-rigger and to see my son and daughter grow up secure, happy and contented in a sane and caring society. Not necessarily in that order.
All very much more grown up than a similar "to do" list I did ages ago which I found recently. It read:
1: To shag each of the Nolan sisters. 2: To find out why a curry house in Willesden keeps inviting me to "special openings".
3: To write the definitive 21st Century English novel
4: To try to recall what the bloody hell I was doing between 1984 and 1990 and to make the relevant apologies to all concerned if necessary. Particularly to the staff and stewards at Lingfield and Cheltenham race-courses.

It's nice to raise one's horizons with age. And no, I didn't realise any of those earlier ambitions!

I once saw the cutest birthday card. It had this boy in his early 20s technically climbing a rock face. He was roped to the mountainside wearing climbing gear and crampons on his boots to grip the ice. Beneath him you see an older woman wearing a house dress and apron with a climbing harness and crampons on her slipper. The caption read from Mom's mouth, "Honey you forgot your wool socks!!!!!"

Pretty funny huh.
Thanks for all the loving concern Sinsull & Kat.

Rick - Your parents knew. They just hoped to live long enough to see it. They may have been surprised at the number of other people who "turned out fine" or improved noticeably just by knowing you.

Now I'll probably be accused of sucking up to god or some such nonsense.

Little Neo - I read "Into Thin Air" and was shocked at the number of people who attempt Everest just because they can afford to. People die there. Having very little to worry about these days, I jumped at the opportunity to obsess over your potential climb. Back to reality...

I have a dream to climb Mount Everest. Guess I should take the question literally huh, 'Before I die'.

Rick, I think gnu has a point here. I figure God and you were best buddies in another lifetime. You guys had such a deep connection that this lifetime round he is playing a game with you. He blanked out your memory and wants to see if you can remember.

That's ok, gnu. You're fun to play with. Skipjack is a Mudcatter who lives in England, is a fine accordionist, and who has given me cyber-accordion lessons. He hasn't been around for a while, so you're not likely to see him unless you check out his pictures in the resources pages.

I didn't realise you were trolling for chicks. Good luck with your quest.

Carol...Skipjack K8 ? A hint ? Since I am new to Mudcat, I don't know all of the scoop on who's who or who's whose. In any case, I had fun funning. I would continue, but I wouldn't like to see a gnu get throttled by a skipjack. It just wouldn't be fair. After all, a gnu is just a dumb animal, whilst a skipjack version K8 is obviously superior. I'll just have to wait for that "love at first sight"....and hope I see her first so I have the element.

Subject: RE: BS: Before I die, I wish....
From: Greyeyes

My particular wish involves a long story to explain it. When I first moved to Plymouth 2 1/2 years ago I had to leave behind, with my parents, my beloved labrador, Millie. After I had been in Plymouth for a few days I phoned home to touch base & asked my Mum how my dog was. She said "your dog is sitting by the front door at 5.30 every evening with her head cocked to one side, waiting for you to come home."

I nearly jumped straight in my car and drove home. Going to bed that night and going to work the next day was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. So my wish is that one day, before I die, I can live in circumstances that allow me to have a dog. It won't be soon, and it won't be Millie, who is now 11, but one day....

Incidentally after a few weeks she forgot all about me, but she still goes gratifyingly beserk when I go home, making pathetic wimpering noises when she sees me, which are quite out of character.

Morticia, I'm sorry to hear about your cat. I hope he's ok.

It's the elegant and subtle sense of irony, gnu. I'm a U.S. American, but I think I inherited the sense of humour from my grandfather who was from Saint John, New Brunswick.

I just spent a little over a month in Orillia, Ontario with Mudcatter, flattop, and also hesperis, Little Hawk, and some other wonderful people. I had a fantastic time. Some pictures from my trip can be found here

Morticia...I know the feeling. Keep the faith. Let us know.

Sins...you can't. Even cat "haters", and there are lots of them, ignorant as they may be ( my own brother is one ), have to have some common sense and that guy sounds like he had less than Homey. I have heard - only ever had female cats - that you can curb a tom's PUBLIC display of "affections" by use of a pillow or towel or bathmat placed in a private place for his "use". As far as how to train him to "affectionate" that particular item, I have no idea. Well....no, I have no idea.

To just once, phone Catspaw, and have him (or anyone else) answer the phone.

To take Duckboots to some of those magnificent places I visited in the past, like Paris, madrid, Amsterdam, New Orleans, London, and so many more. I often went with partners, but no one I really loved.

To have the kind of spiritual moment (that I'm afraid I don't believe in) where I can say "thanks and sorry for being so much trouble", to my late Mother and Father. Also to show them that I turned out fine.

CarolC.... or may I call you Carol ? I had a little Honer that I used to finger when I was a boy but I lost the urge when I grew up and left home. It wasn't til years later when I got my first Hran that I learned why a slow beat was the most difficult and the most rewarding.

Alas, it has been years since I have laid my fingers on a squeezebox and I really don't know if I can make one sing in that sweet melody anymore. However, I have given myself completely to the Hran and I am not remorseful in any way. Indeed, tis through the Hran that I have developed my ability to extend my rythmic thoughts to the supple fingers which pluck music from the skin I brush so gently and, yet, with command....

Yeah, so what were you going to say ?

Oh, and one more.....get those 4 agreements down pat from the book 'The Four Agreements' by Don Miguel Ruiz.
1) To become impeccable with my word.
2) That I finally stop taking things personally.
