Llanfair, the only Marcus Music I can find is in Newport, Gwent - closer to you than me but I'd have thought still a fair trek.

Jon

Llanfair

Sounds like this could be a great weekend!
Marion and I have crossed the weekend through in the bands diary and hope to be there. It aint that far from the Lizard. Forgive my geography but are you anywhere near Marcus Music? as maybe I could combine the visit.I would be gratefull for details of a caravan site nearby willing to rent a van for the weekend.
Regards Baz

Terri, you can contact Julia or Jim at Pippins on 01938 810229. They do bed and breakfast at reasonable rates, and are expecting your call. They also have a caravan where people with sleeping bags can crash for a nominal fee. The Red lion also does B&B at a reasonable rate, and residents aren't subject to licensing hours. I haven't got the phone number handy, but can get it if needed.
Mrs Duck, your caravan should be OK on the carpark for a couple of nights, I'm told. Hwyl, Bron.

I'll definetely be there Bron, although Steve may not, he works two weekends out of four and doesn't know this far in advance when they will be.Can you pass on addresses of accomodation so I can book please, and can we bring anything?

Sorry I can't be with you (sighs of relief all round) but having stayed in the area last year I can say to those who don't know it that it's great for walking* (if you don't mind a bit of mud), birdwatching, and you might be lucky(as we were) and see an otter on the canal or river. There's an interesting canal museum for those interested in narrowboats.
As I spent four years in various parts of Wales I can attest to the natives' tolerance of saesnegg! Seriously, you should get a great welcome.

Sian, it's definately 13th october...that's the Friday, till Sunday, 15th. As for not knowing what happens.....I haven't a clue!! I'm arranging cheap accommodation, a pub to play in, places to get food, and beautiful surroundings. The rest will just have to happen!! Bron

Oh, and Mrs Duck, there are loads of caravan sites here, some are on the website. Contact me if you need any more info, or the Welshpool tourist information site. Bron.

Both October weekends currently look fine from here ... although I know I have to organise another rural tourism conference some Saturday that month. The sooner we set a date, the sooner I can organise around it.

Being new to this kinda thing ... what , ummm , happens?

Sian

Thanks, Jon. There is some new stuff going on the site soon, about the sculpture trail and Llanfair's connection with the Taliesin stories.
The site doesn't say anything about the healing well, or the stone circle in the woods.
Talk to you soon. Bron.

This sounds quite possible - no clash with any other festival I'd be likely to go to. Here is the Folk Roots list I might take you up on that Alan.

(And later today, Bank Holiday Monday, various survivors of the Small Copper and others should be up in the afternoon at The Lion, Eastwick (just North of Harlow on the A414, from about 1pm on) with a barbecue in the pub yard (we'll be under cover.) Sorry about the thread drift there!

The suggested date is 13 14 15 October. I'll keep refreshing this as some UK people will be away this weekend, some lucky folks at Cleethorpes!!!

Couldn't you make it late June or early July :-)? I'd love to be there (though I don't count as an 'UK Mudcatter' anyway) but my annual holiday doesn't stretch beyond mid-July. I'll have to see if I can make it next year. Have fun! - Susanne

Again possibly - depends on how much money we spend in Shetland and I have to work out how I can go and meet people I met on the Internet but my daughter definately can't .

Llanfair, it is too early for me to decide and making Whitby is my priority for this year but if circumstances permit, I would love to be there.

Sian, where are you - Aberystywth?

As long as it isn't Sept 30-Oct 1, I could well be tempted (We have our Cymdeithas Alawon Gwerin lectures that weekend...)

Yes, depending what dates I finally decide on for visiting a pal in Crete, and if only to meet Alan Francis, whose contribution to the funniest song thread could have been me speaking!

Thread duly traced. I'd like to put a few names to faces, plus the chance of a little craic. It's a long way from Essex but not that far, really. Might even tuck McGrath in the back, if he fancies the trip and can suffer my driving!

I've had one of my ideas. How about a gathering here in Mid-Wales one weekend in late September/early October?
I've talked to the landlady of the Red Lion, and she's prepared to accommodate people at a cheap rate, there are other places people can stay, including our house if you don't mind dogs and cats.
Food isn't a problem, I can cook. And we can hang out at the Red most of the time.I can pick people up from Welshpool station if needed.
How about it, anyone interested?
Hwyl, Bron.
