It remains indefinite as to whether we'll manage to get the Whalers back to Mystic this June; we did not receive a CT Culture & Tourism grant, so we're short several $1,000s from what we need to make it happen. We'll make a decision soon.

David-

Do work up your Great Lake songs repertoire. I am familiar with your music as a former Michigan resident and last time around at Mystic I thought your nautical songs were few and far between. Mystic should be a festival of sea songs, and other songs in the key of "C" don't exactly rise to the occasion.

I would normally post this comment as a PM but you are not yet a member of Mudcat; it's a free service and membership is relatively easy to achieve.

just wanted to say that while we are ...eclectic :-) ...we do have a handful of great lakes/sea music/river etc songs and stories we will be doing! Honored to be returning to Mystic!

We'll certainly do that but I really wouldn't expect more than dribs and drabs of new information for a month or so.

What would be "bad form" would be announce a performer who is not confirmed by the Festival Director Geoff Kaufman. That would be embarrassing for everyone.

With that in mind would you please clarify your post above? Are those confirmed performers or your best wishes?

Sorry if this is bad form, because I don't know who'll be at the Sea Music Festival. Regardless, I'll be there as a spectator/sing-alonger. My reason for jumping into this thread is to write that when the info is available online at the Mystic Seaport website, I hope someone will post a blue clicky on this thread.

Oh God - we'd just love to get there, and do the Short, Sharp Shanties presentation! Still, we should be launching the recordings by the end of the year - anybody want the Browns, Jeff Warner, Jim Mageean, Keith Kendrick, Roger Watson, Jackie Oates and Sam Lee?

Mustard's Retreat from Michigan is coming. They do fine music but it has absolutely nothing to do with the sea or even the Great Lakes.

I believe the Barouallie Whalers are coming again from the West Indies and they are fine traditional style singers.

If the stars are properly aligned the Mystic Sea Music Festival will take place this year from Thursday, June 10th, to Sunday, June 13th. Maybe it's time to share what we know about who is booked this year for the Festival.

I believe that Peter Kasin and Richard Adrianowicz from San Francisco will be there.

Anyone match my bid or raise it?

June 11-13, 2010 - 31st Annual Sea Music Festival - Mystic Seaport Museum

We're working hard again to feature a remarkable group of fellows, "The Barrouallie Whalers" from the Eastern Caribbean, authentic longshore whalers who sing shanties like "Johnny Come Down with a Hilo" and "Blow the Man Down" and tell stories of whales, sharks, squalls, and many incidents of their lives. Some appearead at Mystic in 2002; having travelled to the Netherlands and France since their visit to Mystic, they're even better on stage now than in 2002.
