Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Morticia Date: 22 Oct 04 - 07:37 PM Jack has suggested that people bring doggie bics... I wouldn't trust a dog like that, if I were you. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: el_punkoid_nouveau Date: 22 Oct 04 - 07:07 PM Will pack a mandolin or two before I head for the joys of stocktake! Maybe an odd bit of brass plumbing... epn |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Scooby Doo Date: 22 Oct 04 - 05:59 PM I except that idea as a good idea too, bring our own to share with others.I try and bring some purple ones for Mortica. Scooby |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: My guru always said Date: 22 Oct 04 - 05:53 PM Not sure that the Squeezy Cat has recovered from Banbury yet, he had a bit of rough handling there. Maybe if I get him sorted out with some fur, hmmm.... Meanwhile, hope Jack isn't in full hangover mode on the day - will bring Squeezy Cat folded up in my bag in case a last minute understudy proves necessary! Excellent idea MBSLynne lets ALL bring chocolate.... |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Morticia Date: 22 Oct 04 - 01:00 PM George saw right through my "good deed", the swine!!! Choccie tin will be searched for purple ones.......or tantrums will ensue! Had a word with Jack, he wants to be Twig please......can't keep a good pup down. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: MBSLynne Date: 22 Oct 04 - 09:50 AM Some instruments would be good....gives everyone a proper chance to show what they do. If we all brought choccies we'd never run out would we?? Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Scooby Doo Date: 22 Oct 04 - 09:46 AM Cakes would cost too much, chocolates are a better idea plus having a bar which could sell teas and coffee for the non-drinkers. Scooby |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: My guru always said Date: 22 Oct 04 - 09:27 AM Tea & Cakes?? Am hoping Malc will find us somewhere with a bar.... Yes Please Morti!!! Willingly handing over the Squeaky Cat, or will Jack be competing for the Twig? Well done that girl for stepping in at a time of crisis *grin* Introductions an excellent idea Noreen, unfortunately a lot of Shellback Catters missed the roll-call at Banbury. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Snuffy Date: 22 Oct 04 - 07:51 AM Should be able to make it , as our commitments are all on Friday night. I like Noreen's idea of introducing yourself, and agree that a small number of instruments would not be totally unbearable for the unaccompanied fundamentalists among us. And how about tea and cakes as well as the choccies? |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Moses Date: 22 Oct 04 - 07:18 AM I'll be at Gather too! Will try to get Zorg there as well. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: George Papavgeris Date: 22 Oct 04 - 07:12 AM Yes please, Chris! |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Chris Green Date: 22 Oct 04 - 07:06 AM I'll be there, schedule permitting, and I should be able to bludgeon moonunit into turning up too! |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: George Papavgeris Date: 22 Oct 04 - 06:48 AM You just want control of the choccies, Morticia, after you missed out on the purple QS last time! |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Morticia Date: 22 Oct 04 - 06:18 AM I will do it, if you would like a rest,Hil? Or perhaps we could share? |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: GUEST,Noreen Date: 22 Oct 04 - 06:14 AM To try and combine the 'getting to know' bit with singing together, how about each catter introducing themselves before their bit, perhaps saying where they're from or whatever? That gives others a handle for a chat later when time allows. I liked seeing all the 'new' catters at the Banbury meet, but would have liked to know who they were! :0) |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: My guru always said Date: 22 Oct 04 - 05:46 AM So sensitive El Greko! It would be nice to sit back & enjoy, though running the Banbury MudGather was a pleasure apart from having that cold! If no-one else steps up I'll take the reins again, so I guess the answer is 'Yes please Malc, Saturday teatime sounds just right!!' We can works things out between us over the next few weeks & I'll bring the Blow-up Cat. Anyone got any choccies???? Agree it would be good to have more of a 'mixed session' with more instrumentalists, are we really predominantly singers? |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: George Papavgeris Date: 22 Oct 04 - 04:56 AM MBSLynne, re your suggestion for a Mudgather without singing, just for meeting/chat: I don't see that as necessary, certainly not as something the Festival should schedule. An organised "meet and greet" takes valuable time from the festival schedule, and with many Catters already knowing each other, it would only benefit few. The Catters singaround serves as a way to not only put faces to handles, but also to hear each other sing or play. If Catters meet at the singaround, they can then step outside for a chat in twos/threes/etc, or agree to have lunch or a drink together, or something like that. I'll certainly join one, if it's arranged, provided it does not clash with my schedule on the festival programme. It would also be nice to have instrumentalist Catters joining, not just singers, for a nice mixed session. (Someone else already said that, I am just repeating it). And we need one of us to step up and take it on. MGAS did a grand job at Banbury, but she might want to sit back and relax this time. Volunteers/suggestions? |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Scooby Doo Date: 22 Oct 04 - 04:11 AM Thats a good idea to get to know each other a little bit more,we could also do a little singing if we wanted too????. Scooby |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: MBSLynne Date: 22 Oct 04 - 03:06 AM Kitty, epn and I have breakfast about five hours and quite a few miles apart this week....he's in Canada! Someone said they would like a Mudgather without the singing so we could chat to the other catters more. If there are already loads of singarounds, perhps that would be a good idea? Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Herga Kitty Date: 21 Oct 04 - 06:49 PM OK Malc - teatime sounds good. As long as MGAS brings the inflatable cat.... Kitty |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Malc Bedworth Date: 21 Oct 04 - 06:32 PM Ello again all - OK then, do you want me to set something up for around teatime Saturday for a 'Catters session? - if so can I have an offer of someone(s)"holding it together" then I'll get it sorted, realistically I'll need to know for sure over the week-end at the latest as I'll be looking at events and running orders etc from then onwards. By the way saw the Civic Hall a couple of days back - looks like a bomb-site - all adds to the delights of picturesque Bedworth! Ta! Malc. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Herga Kitty Date: 21 Oct 04 - 06:11 PM Lynne and epn - I think you might need to have a word with each other over breakfast, or other convenient mealtime? Love Kitty |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: MoorleyMan Date: 21 Oct 04 - 06:02 PM Me too, Guru! I'm sure it'll be a good 'un. So come back in, Malc - only a month to go and counting! |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: el_punkoid_nouveau Date: 21 Oct 04 - 05:52 PM Lynne - there are several good things about Coalville - all the roads out of it! I have to work on the Saturday (annual stocktake, and being resident geek, I have lots to do). Will be there lateish afternoon, if the meet can be delayed a bit... epn |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: My guru always said Date: 21 Oct 04 - 04:55 PM Sounds like there's been a Fantastic effort made to sort alternative venues under the circumstances, imagine what could be done if all available venues are up & running next year..... Well done MalcBedworth & all behind the scenes! BTW MalcBedworth, you ain't exactly 'butting in' - you've just given us plenty of quality info about the Fest which helps tremendously!!! Re. having a Catter gather, what do Catters think? Reckon we'll probably all be meeting & hugging & stuff anyway, should we try to organise something at this late stage? I'm waiting to see the program to figure out who I can get to see.... |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Scooby Doo Date: 21 Oct 04 - 03:49 PM Splott Man says "YES" so i am coming too, yippee. Scooby |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: MBSLynne Date: 20 Oct 04 - 08:36 AM LOL! I think the second one is probably what gives the whole thing the edge! You obviously know the area! Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: GUEST,Vic at work Date: 20 Oct 04 - 08:27 AM MBSLynne, Challenge accepted. 1) Proximity to the Chitterman Hills. 2) It is not Albert Village 3) Bass is brewed just down the road. 4) Easy access to both Bedworth and the National. O K its not brilliant but its better than nothing!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Subject: RE: Bedworth From: MBSLynne Date: 20 Oct 04 - 03:35 AM I challenge anyone to find anything nice about Coalville.......... I'm looking forward to it too, especially since it's my last festival Of the year and I won't be going to anything else until February! And yes Malc, a Mudcat gather would be nice, there seem to be a lot of Catters going Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Snuffy Date: 19 Oct 04 - 09:47 AM Dave, You're right about Bedworth and Crewe - both honest-to-goodness hardworking towns with no frills. The Nicholas Chamberlain almshouses in the centre of town were given by an old Bedworth lad who became Lord Mayor of London a long time ago. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Chris Green Date: 19 Oct 04 - 09:04 AM Hurrah for Bedduth - an oasis in the otherwise sparse and barren landscape of winter festivals! I'm counting the days! |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Gillie Date: 19 Oct 04 - 08:46 AM Bedworth is wonderful when all light up with fairy lights and the fair ground is going!!! I can think of worse places to be in winter BG Thanks for the info Malc and good luck with the festival Gillie |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: GUEST,Dave Roberts, Salt Town Poets Date: 19 Oct 04 - 08:12 AM Someone said that Bedworth is not 'the prettiest of towns' (or words to that effect). I wonder if the fact that the festival takes place in the winter doesn't help? No town is at its best in December. For what it's worth, Bedworth reminded me a lot of Crewe - and, rest assured, that's a compliment. (Crewe is another much-maligned town which many people do not bother to look at too closely.) And I seem to recall passing a truly delightful spot in Bedworth not far from the town centre with some wonderful old buildings. From memory, I think they were almshouses or something of the sort. Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Emma B Date: 18 Oct 04 - 07:41 PM Thanks Malc - will pass the ticket information on...I'm getting excited to. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Herga Kitty Date: 18 Oct 04 - 06:48 PM Malc - how kind of you to butt in on all this off-thread stuff, with some really useful info about festival venues! Glad to hear it's going well. Hope to see you on the 27th! Kitty |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Morticia Date: 18 Oct 04 - 06:45 PM sounds good, Malc, thanks |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Malc Bedworth Date: 18 Oct 04 - 06:26 PM Hi, Just butting in to the thread to say - want a Catters Meet then I'll find you a venue! Just also to let you all know that the current situation with venues is: Civic Hall refurbishment will not be finished in time (only the main hall will be available so the Craft fair and Ceilidh will be going on in there) Arts Centre next door will be OK so Voices will be there as usual and all the day/evening concerts on saturday, plus we will be using the Arts Centre friday evening. We have the very plush Liberal Club for concerts all day saturday "The All Day Folk Cabaret" with all the main guests appearing during the day (also cheap beer and catering facilities) - fridays main concert will be in the Conservative club, and the Ceilidh in the Ex-Servicemans Club (sorry we can't keep complete political impartiality as the Labour Club has closed down!) We are also using the Fire Station Social club friday/saturday and sunday, a nice room that holds about 60 people and beer at £1.40 a pint and just a few paces from the indoor camping! Childrens events will be in the Methodist Church Hall (opposite the White Swan)- Needless to say the White Swan will remain a hive of activity over the week-end with song and music sessions plus the upstairs clubroom. All venues are within 100 yards or so of the Civic Hall. We are starting to build up the info on the web site but as you can imagine it's been very difficult sorting out venues at this late stage. Also in reply to "Are there any tickets left" - the use of the new venues has given us the ability to greatly increase capacity and far better concert facilities so we can up our ticket numbers, otherwise we'd be getting close to capacity now. Sorry to go on - I must be getting excited!! Malc. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: GUEST,MBS Date: 17 Oct 04 - 10:43 AM MBS=MIDDLE BAR SINGER,which i am |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Herga Kitty Date: 17 Oct 04 - 10:07 AM Lynne I don't think the above (Malicious Bitchy Suggestions)is MBS as you and I mean MBS? Kitty |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: MBSLynne Date: 17 Oct 04 - 09:35 AM I was going to say something rude to MBS, but, being a nice person, I won't. MBS, if you follow some of the threads you will find that, by the end, they have gone completely away from the original subject. It's like a conversation...wanders about as the people in it chat, and all the better for that. If you don't like it, don't read it. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Fran Date: 17 Oct 04 - 09:33 AM There is more info on the new venues now up on the website (see link in my previous post). The main ticket and info desk will be in the Arts Centre coffee bar. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Herga Kitty Date: 17 Oct 04 - 09:28 AM MBS is flaming - MBS (as opposed to Lynne and George) is not even a Mudcat member, at least not under that cookie (I checked), so can't be PM'd. As El Greko has pointed out, refreshing the thread (even irrelevantly) gets it back to the top. I'm not fully up to date with the venue problem - I know there is one, because Malc heard in August that the rebuilding work at the Civic Centre won't be finished in time for the festival - but would it be feasible for Catters to gather in the White Swan? Kitty |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Eye Lander Date: 17 Oct 04 - 06:21 AM Thank you Mortica - I didn't realise we had to be so serious being a new comer to Mudcat! Apologies to all concerned or should this have gone on a personal message to all |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: GUEST Date: 16 Oct 04 - 08:11 PM well said!!!!!.Both of the above, interesting threads do come out of some snippets of conversation. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: My guru always said Date: 16 Oct 04 - 07:02 PM Just as Folk evolves, so do the threads.... and interesting stuff pops up from time to time! |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: Morticia Date: 16 Oct 04 - 06:49 PM and since when were you appointed Thread Police, MBS? We often drift, that is part of the charm of the Mudcat.......when you've been around long enough to appreciate that, perhaps you won't be so authoritarian. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: GUEST,MBS Date: 16 Oct 04 - 01:48 PM If you wish to talk of thread then "pm" the person involved!!!!. |
Subject: RE: Bedworth From: MBSLynne Date: 16 Oct 04 - 01:46 PM Jilly, my Mum is about as grown up as me, and you know how grown up that is!! My Dad is 6'2"!! Someone must have put her up to it.. Love Lynne |
