Subject: RE: BS: Bat Goddess's Broken Arm From: curmudgeon Date: 15 Dec 07 - 09:44 AM Not much to report. Linn's doing a lot of sleeping, still needs a hand getting in and out of bed, not to mention bringing her food, water and meds. This of course precludes my attendance at this afternoon's session. Will miss you all - Tom |
Subject: RE: BS: Bat Goddess's Broken Arm From: curmudgeon Date: 14 Dec 07 - 03:07 PM Linn's home, medicated, sleeping. She actually called in to the RG on Tuesday and Wednesday to "consult" and instruct as to getting the mag out. More info as it occurs - Tom |

Subject: RE: BS: Bat Goddess's Broken Arm From: Jeri Date: 14 Dec 07 - 11:17 AM I dug out from the snow, ventured forth for my car's safety inspection. It's a beautiful bright day here, blue sky above, and here below... I ought to write a song. Fluffy white ground, the sun is fierce and everything sparkles. It's a good day to come home. Fiber, fiber, fiber. Linn's got what they give me for migraines and it DOES slow down the south end of one's alimentary canal. Fiber: psyllium husks, bran, onions and veggies, fruit, and as others have said, much water. Also, lobster thermidor or some other one-arm-friendly lobster dish, because it's their fault and you MUST get even. You might want to wait until she's fully conscious for that one. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bat Goddess's Broken Arm From: curmudgeon Date: 14 Dec 07 - 10:50 AM Getting ready to go to the hospital to bring Linn home. More later - Tom |
Subject: RE: BS: Bat Goddess's Broken Arm From: katlaughing Date: 14 Dec 07 - 10:24 AM Ditto what Sorcha said about the painkillers. 2-3 figs per day, either in a smoothie, or eaten, will help prevent that or correct the problem. Glad to hear the surgery went well. Hope she is able to come home before Sunday's storm. SOunds like you got a heck of a lot of snow. Stay warm! kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Bat Goddess's Broken Arm From: John MacKenzie Date: 14 Dec 07 - 06:07 AM Well I too broke my wrist as a youngster, in a tree related incident. I was actually climbing said tree after a lost arrow, and fell out onto a road beneath. A passing motorist picked me up dusted me off, and sent me on my way a bit dazed, and it wasn't until I tried to climb the fence to get back into the garden that I realised my 'sore' wrist didn't work. I must have enjoyed some part of it though, as I've been getting 'out of my tree' on a regular basis ever since. G |

Subject: RE: BS: Bat Goddess's Broken Arm From: Charley Noble Date: 13 Dec 07 - 09:23 PM While we're waiting for more updates we could compare notes on our experiences with breaking bones. Some may have missed this life experience. I was only 10 when my sled decided to take out a large pine tree. You see our farmhouse is on a high winding hill with a pine grove at the bottom, before you get to the stone bridge and the trolls. My older brother always made efforts to "improve" the sledding surface by judiciously pouring water on the hill, something my father failed to fully appreciate. So anyway, one day we were racing down and I was trying my best to keep up with big brother and my sled took a jump and went off the course and into a tree. Fortunately the tree wasn't critically injured but my brother was impressed with the big dent in the front of my sled, and the fact that I was screaming at the top of my lungs. My parents hustled me off to the hospital where I only remember the nurse saying, "Will we have to streeeetch it?" It was only a fracture, much to her disappointment. And I was back sledding in 8 weeks. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: BS: Bat Goddess's Broken Arm From: Sorcha Date: 13 Dec 07 - 08:46 PM Yea...pain meds can be good things. Tom, if she is on ANY of the opiates (vicodene, oxycotin, codeine, etc....) watch for constipation. It is a rather major side effect that the Docs seem to fail to mention most of the time. If she is eating any solid food and doesn't 'go' in several days, take measures. Make sure she is getting a LOT of just plain water too. Surgery and pain killers are very dehydrating. And don't accept no free canoes! |

Subject: RE: BS: Bat Goddess's Broken Arm From: Helen Date: 13 Dec 07 - 01:59 PM Hi Linn, A couple of years ago I broke my arm - only a hairline fracture, though - while hanging Christmas lights in the window. At the time I was a temp and only got paid when I worked so I had to go to work, in the peak period (think: chaos at super speeds) and keep doing the same things as normal. Typing with a plaster cast extending from around part of my hand to just below the elbow is good physiotherapy - it's weight lifting. I had been saying for weeks before that that I "needed a break". A break is what I got. Take care of yourself. Don't overdo things. Take some time for yourself, pamper yourself. Lots of light, love & <<<< And I'm sad that visions of you cooking lobster to eat have been shattered by the mundane reality of kicking the empty pot in the kitchen. Not even the reward of a lobster feast to compensate you for your injuries! Helen |

Subject: RE: BS: Bat Goddess's Broken Arm From: Sorcha Date: 12 Dec 07 - 08:46 PM "Sorch - do you have a canoe in your house that you trip over regularly?" Canoes are obviously related to lobster pots as they cause major damage. Mr was trying to get a canoe down from the side of a garage (or something, I'm still not too straight on that part), fell 8', landed on the edge of an oak pallette and shattered his right elbow. Screws, pins and plates. That was 30 April, he had the jig saw puzzle surgery on 3 May and he is just now finally released from the surgeons care. Back to work, and as healed up as he'll ever be. Still can't do 100% extension or lift quite all the weight he used to be able to, but more or less a miracle anyway. Pic here. NOT for the squeamish. This xray doesn't really show the ulna, it was shattered too. A plate on the radius, plate on the ulna, LOTS of screws. The Motto of the Year was...keep signing, it's only money. I HOPE that Linns' arm isn't this bad!!! Pins and screws just don't sound too good. |

Subject: RE: BS: Bat Goddess's Broken Arm From: Bat Goddess Date: 12 Dec 07 - 02:01 PM Thanks for needed good thouts & white light. This was definitely the pot you cook lobters in (when WAS the last time we had lobster?!?) carefully stored in the dark part of the kitchen near door to room with 'puter. cuz don't know where else to put it. Me in a hurry. Bad combo. Bad choice, too, as an excuse to not clean house (and floor clutter -- said big kettle) for holiday. Sigh. Typing w/one hand a REAL bitch! Back to bed for drugs & rest. Wish Rufus would stop aiming for left arm! (& reaching w/claws under covers for my toes.) EVERYTHING postponed til after hols. Linn |

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. > Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. Bastards! There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage. > > Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs. I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now... G. |
