Please be sure that the hospital is not letting him out too soon under threat from impending carol singing Mudcatters!
Giok ;~0

Seriously though, great news.

Kevin, if you ever heard me try to play the guitar you wouldn't say that. I can pick a few tunes on the penny whistle & recorder and strum a few chords on my autoharp, otherwise it's percussion. But as Dave says we can always do harmonies. All being well he should be out by Wednesday.

Till your right arm is back you could always try having Essex Girl do that bit on the guitar, and you just do the left hand.

So glad to read this, Dave - and my congratulations that you are still able to sing. I have learned to live without a guitar (bad wrist), but having lost my ability to sing still grieves me every day. So be glad, lucky one!

Best wishes for your recovery, and remember - patience!

Wilfried

Tue 14th Dec

Here I am again. Linda's recharged my PDA (an iPaq 2210 running Pocket Windows) and I'll send this file back (on a compact flash card) with her to post as soon as she can.

Well one little victory to report, I've gained my "walking licence" so I don't have to get a nurse to follow me around before l go anywhere - I can now walk for exercise (and practice), rather than just to go to the loo. I've even been promised a short walk outside
tomorrow.

I've been doing physio on my arm this morning and I'm getting more strenght in it, but still no movement in the wrist and hand. Still, I'll keep trying - I want to play that guitar again some day - even if Breezy and some others might object to me usinng the word "again".

PDA permitting, I'll try and write something each day and get Linda to post it when she gets the chance.

Dave

Just an idea, but if Nurse Ratchett and Avril Betts where to supervise his recouperation they could walk a few paces in front of him, he'd soon be galloping along like a young colt

colt ? ........... is that the correct spelling ?

Now he's walking alone they will probably let him out for Christmas. Weather permitting he is being allowed outside tomorrow and depending on his progress he might only have to go back on a daily basis, but we are not getting our hopes up yet.

Dave has just rung to say that he has his 'walking licence', which means he will be able to move around the ward on his own and so build up his mobility. The staff are very pleased with his progress. Noreen, a PDA is a pocket computer, great for storing addresses, telephone numbers, songs etc. (You can also play games!!!)You can transfer all information between a PC and PDA, which I managed to do after detailed instructions from Dave.

HEY!! Sounds like some real progress!!! Remember you'll hit plateaus for a bit so don't get worried.....just keep working. Knowing you Dave, I am surprised they would give you a stick of any sort!!! Should someone warn them to be nice to you when you have stick in hand???

BTW, since the two outside legs are working better don't forget to take some time to get the middle one back in shape as well(:<))

Hello, this is Dave - I've entered this on my PDA at the hospital - Linda's going to try and post it later tonight. Thank you all for your best wishes, you've all been wonderful. My right leg is working much better and I can get around with a stick, with a member of staff in tow - they may let me go solo soon. I have limited movement in my right shoulder and a little in the forearm, but my hand is still completely paralyzed.

PS from Essex Girl. Dave would like to have posted more but his PDA ran out of power and he can't charge it up in hospital. I'll take it back tomorrow and he can compose some more

If anyone is in our area in the days following Christmas, please drop in and have a drink. (He might not be able to but we can)!!!!!

Just spoken to Dave, he seems in good spirits, sadly not he alcoholic one's. Apparently he has to squeeze oranges as part of his physio to strengthen his grip, now his nurse is nicely rounded in certain departments ........ guess what Dave is thinking about squeezing !

Hope's to be out over Christmas and is determined to be bloody minded about a full recovery

Truly encouraging to hear he's made such good progress. I think that really is an extremely quick rate of recovery, so fingers crossed it continues & you two get to spend Christmas at home together. Sounds like before too long he may be taking it upon himself to entertain the rest of the folks in the ward...!

All the best.

Sounds like he's making good early progress.

Can we have his guitar for a raffle prize?

'He was the tenor section' I like that, and all before G4 came into view.

And I've resisted being rude about him.

So far.

Look , no hi-jack -out of respect.

He can get on with cutting his own CD albums of songs he knows, he's got to produce 21 albums with 14 songs on each to beat my total, that'll give him something to do in the new year.

Unless he's got something better to do!, nah not for a while.

Good wishes Linda

This does sound like pretty rapid progress, as these things go (though I don't imagine he'd feel it that way).

Incidentally, would it be the left or the right arm that is affected?

It should be up in the music section - but if it encourages a few people to stop being all hoity-toity about coming down "below the line" that'll be a good thing.

Glad to hear the voice is unaffected. My fondest memory is from the early days of the Thomas Clark Quire when Dave WAS the tenor section!
Couldn't hear what line we basses were supposed to be singing with him in full flow, at any rate!
