Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's bad news (May 2009) From: gnu Date: 09 Jun 09 - 02:34 PM Red oak is the only wood I use for making furniture and such. The grain is just soooo pleasing to the eye. There are lots of other woods that are great for certain applications, and budgets, but red oak is the only stuff I keep in stock. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's bad news (May 2009) From: kendall Date: 09 Jun 09 - 01:12 PM Ok. I'll keep you up to speed. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's bad news (May 2009) From: maeve Date: 09 Jun 09 - 12:57 PM Kendall, not to worry. Red Oak is one of the most adaptable oaks around. It was in a sandy loam soil, so we were able to get the roots out without losing any. Clay soil isn't the problem for this tree it might have been for a White Oak. We have a week or so of cloudy skies and moderate rain coming up, so let's just give it time to adjust to its new home. If it still looks unhappy in a week, give me a call and I'll take a look. Thinking of you, maeve |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's bad news (May 2009) From: kendall Date: 09 Jun 09 - 11:29 AM maeve, our tree is looking quite dejected. I think it misses you. I followed your instructions to the letter, but it may not like the clay soil I stuck it with. |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's bad news (May 2009) From: maeve Date: 09 Jun 09 - 06:12 AM Jacqui & Kendall- Truelove and I will be watching for an update; thanks. I'll send a PM with a message for the Patons. Rapaire- When I do a bantam roundup I usually just whistle them in. Our rooster Calico gets the hens into the chicken house for me with wing-display and chortles. I've donated the chicken branding iron to Sinsull. She needed it for some ceremony she has planned for a 'Catter who may be sailing into Portland harbor. maeve |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's bad news (May 2009) From: Janie Date: 08 Jun 09 - 08:49 PM I'm so jealous that you are able to visit the farm of maeve and true-love. Mosquitos or not, (think of the feast that provides for all the birds), the good vibe has got to do wonderful things for the mind, body and spirit. Do I recall your procedure is tomorrow Kendall? |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's bad news (May 2009) From: Micca Date: 08 Jun 09 - 11:49 AM Rap!! I HATE you.... you have given me a complete extraneous set of images which are now firmly wedged in my brain... the littlw branding irons...the caponising irons.. great herds of chickens stampeding...." and Skarpi singing (in Icelandic) of course".....Iipiee eye ayyyy, Iipiee eye oooo-o, Ghost Chickens in the sky...." |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's bad news (May 2009) From: Rapparee Date: 08 Jun 09 - 09:10 AM Do they have a chickwagon on the roundup? I knew a guy who had a chick wagon -- different sort of thing, though. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's bad news (May 2009) From: jacqui.c Date: 08 Jun 09 - 09:07 AM We didn't see Headless Jesus - there was too much else to inspect and too many mosquitoes for me to stay out there too long. Sorry RAP - the only round up was done by Maeve, when the chickens got too close to a forbidden area and she gently shooed them back to their own ground. |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's bad news (May 2009) From: Rapparee Date: 08 Jun 09 - 08:44 AM Free range chickens? Do they have a roundup every spring and brand the chicks? Do they hire on chickboys for it? What about the fall roundup? I can just hear the songs of the night guard as they circle the flock: "Get along little chickies get along, get along...." and "Little Joe The Chicken Wrangler" and "I'm An Old Chick Hand". Nothing like a chicken stampede, either, with the chickboys trying to circle them back and the lightning cracking overhead, a couple of chickboys trampled.... "Yee-ha! Head 'em up! Gotta get this flock to Machiasport!" |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's bad news (May 2009) From: SINSULL Date: 08 Jun 09 - 08:14 AM Did you visit Headless Jesus??? |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's bad news (May 2009) From: kendall Date: 08 Jun 09 - 07:14 AM And they put up UNPAINTED bird houses for the wild birds. I get irritated when I see painted bird houses. They are not natural and birds wont use them. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's bad news (May 2009) From: jacqui.c Date: 07 Jun 09 - 08:52 PM And they have free range chickens - absolutely beautiful ones! It is a lovely place, very hard work, but it will be very rewarding. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's bad news (May 2009) From: kendall Date: 07 Jun 09 - 08:48 PM They gave us a beautiful 5 foot Oak tree. The one I planted for Utah died, and they were kind enough to replace it. You should see their place, all kinds of life all around them! Flora and Fauna as far as you can see. They have gone back to the land and it is obvious that the land wants them back. Thank you my dear friends. |
