Subject: RE: New Singers' Session - Birstall (Yorks.) From: nutty Date: 27 Feb 14 - 12:40 PM It depends how you define " a session" Yorkie According to the Oxford English Dictionary a session is - A period devoted to a particular activity: - so this activity is , in my view, correctly defined. |
Subject: RE: New Singers' Session - Birstall (Yorks.) From: GUEST,Yorkie Date: 27 Feb 14 - 12:00 PM Good luck with the venture (but please don't call it a session, 'cos it's not!) |

Subject: RE: New Singers' Session - Birstall (Yorks.) From: MoorleyMan Date: 26 Feb 14 - 02:44 PM Sorry you didn't make it Ray. I believe the tally was that eight singers sang 5 songs apiece, and one sang 3. Luckily no memory feat was required, as Maureen's a keen statistician and kept a record of the total! |
Subject: RE: New Singers' Session - Birstall (Yorks.) From: r.padgett Date: 26 Feb 14 - 12:17 PM How many of the 43 did you sing and from memory? Ray |
Subject: RE: New Singers' Session - Birstall (Yorks.) From: MoorleyMan Date: 26 Feb 14 - 11:38 AM First night went well, with a decent and appreciative turnout, 43 songs were sung in total, and a very enjoyable time was had by all. Looking forward to seeing the absentees next month all being well. |
Subject: RE: New Singers' Session - Birstall (Yorks.) From: Dennis the Elder Date: 25 Feb 14 - 07:42 AM I certainly will try, good luck on the first night |
Subject: RE: New Singers' Session - Birstall (Yorks.) From: MoorleyMan Date: 24 Feb 14 - 06:07 PM Apology accepted Dennis, hope to see you next month then! Steve, sorry you won't be there - it would be good to see the other NPF folk if they can make it. Refresh and reiterate - all singers welcome, should be a good night! |
Subject: RE: New Singers' Session - Birstall (Yorks.) From: Dennis the Elder Date: 23 Feb 14 - 05:29 PM Too far away at the moment, but will try the next one. It will be a pleasure to see Dave. |
Subject: RE: New Singers' Session - Birstall (Yorks.) From: Steve Howlett Date: 23 Feb 14 - 03:07 PM Seems the wind is in another quarter and I must be elsewhere that day. Next time. And we like Dave Kidman. So there! |
Subject: RE: New Singers' Session - Birstall (Yorks.) From: Steve Howlett Date: 23 Feb 14 - 09:20 AM Given a favourable wind (oops pardon!) we'll be there too. NPF. |
Subject: RE: New Singers' Session - Birstall (Yorks.) From: MoorleyMan Date: 22 Feb 14 - 02:23 PM Looking forward to seeing you there Joe. You're always most welcome. Now Guest, no need to be so negative - there's no shame in this new venture, it's just an honest attempt to plug a gap in the scene, whoever else is involved. Hey, give it a chance - it might just work... |

Subject: New Singers' Session - Birstall (Yorks.) From: MoorleyMan Date: 20 Feb 14 - 06:07 PM Starting on Tuesday 25th February 2014 and then on the last Tuesday of each month: "Just Voices", a new singaround/session for unaccompanied singers only (no instruments). Venue: The Black Bull Inn, Kirkgate, Birstall, West Yorks. WF17 9PB (UK), in upstairs function room with good acoustics. Friendly and welcoming pub, good beer. Starts 8 pm prompt. Free admission. To quote the flyer: "The aim of this friendly singaround/session is the sharing of good songs: whether they be traditional or contemporary; rousing chorus songs and harmonies; or solo ballads". (This might also include the occasional monologue or poem, I understand.... ) And before any musicians get the chance to be offended - this is the first gathering to cater specifically for unaccompanied singers that I can recall in the Yorkshire area, in quite some time (it's a good ten years since the popular and long-lived Otley Red Lion singers' session folded). After all, there are plenty of sessions for musicians only, so why not one for singers only, just for a change? As well as singer-participants, listeners (audience) are also most welcome. Come and give it a try! |
