Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: kendall Date: 02 Apr 08 - 09:28 PM I don't know why we can't have the Getaway in Maine so everyone could go. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Susan A-R Date: 02 Apr 08 - 09:09 PM I'm planning on it. The music budget is slim this year, no Northeast Heritage camp, but I'm planning on Old Songs and the Getaway, hopefully paid for by either music or cooking gigs. Mmario the Mmonarch of the Sea, (And we are his siters and his cousins and his aunts) See you all in October, if not before. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Big Mick Date: 02 Apr 08 - 07:19 PM Barry, I will be there on time. I am clearing the boards so I have nothing to stop me from leaving to make it at a decent hour. Shall I bring a goatskin on a stick or are you in charge of the torture this year? Mick |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: ClaireBear Date: 02 Apr 08 - 05:10 PM Dani, Oh goody, 'cause I want to meet you too. It was frustrating to spend a week in Durham last fall -- some of it even at Duke -- but not have time to hunt you up. My sister and brother-in-law had every minute scheduled for me. Which was fun, but... Staying with relatives is a joy and a boon financially, but it can occasionally be limiting in other ways. I'll look forward to meeting you at the Getaway. Claire |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: GUEST,Dani Date: 02 Apr 08 - 05:02 PM public school teachers get sick, too, you know. I plan to be there this year (wait, I think I've said THAT before). But the job that kept me away for so long is a distant memory, so here's to re-aligning priorities : ) Dani |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: GUEST,Dan's laptop Date: 02 Apr 08 - 04:44 PM Kendall will be there, won't you Kendall? He just likes to keep us anxious. Leo, I'm sorry you won't be there, but glad we'll have other folks. And _still_ nobody gets the Sir Joseph reference? "With his sisters and his counsins whom he reckons out by dozens...." *Sigh* I guess Gilbert and Sullivan isn't folkie enough. Warmly, Dan |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Leadfingers Date: 02 Apr 08 - 03:36 PM There are plans afoot ! Its FAR too long since 'O5 , and I havent even seen the New Camp !! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: skarpi Date: 02 Apr 08 - 03:27 PM hmmmm start savin money people , I have already started all the best Skarpi |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Amos Date: 02 Apr 08 - 03:21 PM Kendall -- You damn better, mate! I would have to hunt you down and chastise you if ya didna. MMario -- I understand that blood is thicker than water, and all that, but music is thicker than both of them put together. Surely you can see that! A |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: kendall Date: 02 Apr 08 - 03:08 PM Peter, Kris at the Getaway? That could be an incentive to attend. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: MMario Date: 02 Apr 08 - 01:33 PM This is the lad who had to cancel last summer because his daughter was to be born the weekend they had planned to marry...so I'm not saying a word to him! Especially since they brought the baby to see me at a renfaire the next month. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: ClaireBear Date: 02 Apr 08 - 01:31 PM You mean I'm going to not get to exchange recipes and renfaire stories with MMario for two years in a row? With whom do I lodge a formal protest? Claire |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: jacqui.c Date: 02 Apr 08 - 12:23 PM That would be wonderful Peter! What a treat to have you two at the Getaway. Leo - get the lad to change the date!!!!!!!! You will be missed. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Amos Date: 02 Apr 08 - 12:18 PM MAKE IT SO, then.... :) >=======> |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Midchuck Date: 02 Apr 08 - 10:48 AM Kris has given her notice, and her position is being advertised. (My Gawd, that sounds awful when you read it back!) She's talking with a "ski academy" about work from Nov. - March. It could....work! Peter |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Dan Schatz Date: 02 Apr 08 - 10:48 AM Shall we call you Sir Joseph? (Now, how long will it take the Mudcat to catch THAT reference?) Dan |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: MMario Date: 02 Apr 08 - 10:07 AM I give thanks daily that none of my sibs reproduced at the rate my parents aunts and uncles did. only 13 nieces and nephews out of 8 sibs is pretty good. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Amos Date: 02 Apr 08 - 09:59 AM Dammit, Leo, this is grossly unfair. EVERY YEAR you come up with a cousin or nephew or some other ilk that is either giving birth, dying or getting married or all of the above. I'm all for strong families, pal, but this is just too much of a good thing!! A |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: MMario Date: 02 Apr 08 - 09:49 AM crap - I was afraid of that - Just found out my Nephew is getting married on the 5th. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Charley Noble Date: 02 Apr 08 - 09:42 AM I'm thinking I may be able to make this one. It's been two years since I last attended one, with Barry Finn and his wife Justine. Would there be general interest in another sea shanty workshop? I'd also be interested in leading a workshop based on adapting the poems of old sailor-poets for singing. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Severn Date: 06 Nov 07 - 10:56 AM There's another Sea Chanty sing in Baltimore the second Wednesday of every month at the Wharf Rat in Fells Point, if the calendar works that way, not to mention the Institute Of Musical Traditions Concert Series with folk acts every Monday night at that time of year. (Hammered Dulcimer player Maggie Sansone was there last night). A scan of both the the FSGW newsletter and the Weekender supplement published every Friday in the Washington Post will bring you up to date on the rich music and dance scene here, while The Weekender will also clue you in on what's at the museums, theatres and such and other odd special events in town as well. Historical sites abound in Maryland Notheren Virginia and DC and it's an easy day trip to seashore, bay , piedmont, river and mountain settings as well as Frederick Annapolis and Baltimore. Friends from FSGW or Mudcat will put you up through a post on a Mudcat thread and link up for rides or shelter on the other legs of your trip as well. The music and the friendships to be made are lasting. Go for it! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: jacqui.c Date: 06 Nov 07 - 10:47 AM And if you've got a spare day in there Leo - you could come visit us in Maine! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: MMario Date: 06 Nov 07 - 10:38 AM I'm thinking I might splurge and actually take A weekend at MDRF, then Getaway, Wheaton, and end up in Massachusetts for another ren-faire over Columbus day. hmmmmmm - possibilities. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: jacqui.c Date: 06 Nov 07 - 10:32 AM Now, if I can get the Ancient Mariner to leave Maine for that long....... |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: beardedbruce Date: 06 Nov 07 - 10:32 AM Get some sleep- we will still be here tomorrow. (GW&tcdr) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Midchuck Date: 06 Nov 07 - 10:32 AM All these years and we've never been to a Getaway, because Kris is a public school teacher and we'd really need to take two or three days outside of the weekend off, to go to the full thing and have enough time for travel, not to get back home half dead. She's talking seriously about getting out at the end of this school year. Hope springs eternal... Peter |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Amos Date: 06 Nov 07 - 10:29 AM Can we do it tomorrow instead? :D Thanks, BB. A |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: beardedbruce Date: 06 Nov 07 - 10:25 AM ...at LEAST until... The Sea Chanty sing is the 1st Tuesday of the month there... But I am sure we can find things to do later in the week. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: MMario Date: 06 Nov 07 - 10:23 AM oooooohhhhhh - that "stay over until wednesday part sounds like something....When is columbus day next year? ahhh - the NEXT weekend. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......... |
Subject: Getaway 2008 From: beardedbruce Date: 06 Nov 07 - 08:49 AM While we are all thinking about it... The 2008 dates will be October 3-6, 2008. The 2009 dates will be October 2-5, 2009. With proper advanced planning ( get into town the THURSDAY night and get to Chance's party that night, stay over until Wednesday and catch the Sea Chanty sing in Wheaton) it CAN all be arranged. |
