Make Me A Channel Of Your Peace
Words by Sebastian Temple

Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there is hatred let me bring your love;
Where there is injury your pardon, Lord;
And where there's doubt true faith in you.

Refrain:
Oh, Master grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there's despair in life let me bring hope;
Where there is darkness, only light;
And where there's sadness, ever joy.

Refrain

Make me a channel of your peace.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
In giving to all men that we receive;
And in dying that we're born to eternal life.

Refrain

The Canticle of the Sun is real St. Francis. The "Make me an instrument, etc." is a later composition, back attributed. Just to be pedantic.

yours, Peter T.

There are several; there is a hymn called the Canticle of the Sun, which is the one where he goes on about brother sun and sister moon (or burning sun and silver moon for the hymnbooks) which is 'All creatures of our God and King'.

Then there is the Make me a channel of your peace, which can be found in most modern hymn books like Mission Praise, Celebration Hymnal or Songs and Hymns of Fellowship.

It was paraphrased and set to music in the 70's and quite quickly gained popularity.

Then there is another version of the canticle of the Sun which is partly in italian - Laudate te, o mi Signore. That is in Celebration Hymnal as well.

Most of those books should be available both sides of the pond but you may have difficulty with Mission Praise, as it is getting a bit old now..... not unlike myself!

If you have trouble, I can do the lyrics but not the tune. If you have a private address I can scan it and send it to you. Let me know through Personnal Messages if you want.

Does anyone know a song version for the Prayer of Saint Francis? It may be known by the title "Make Me A Channel of Your Peace". I will post the words here in the hopes that someone knows a source for the melody or an alternative lyric.

Make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred let me sow love,
Where there is injury let me sow pardon,
Where there is doubt, faith,
Where there is despair, hope,
Where there is darkness, light,
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Lord, grant that I may not seek so much
to be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in forgiving that we are forgiven
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Thanks for the help, Mac
