Is a "hi ho" a prostitute who is stoned on drugs?

Well the recruitment firm Westaff have catagorically denied that they ever suggested that the expression was "offensive to women" and the person who notified the press of this "refused to be identified" - another tabloid PC scare story?

It is reported elsewhere
that recruits appear in fact to have been advised not to "bellow" but rather to "tone down" voices to the lower leval of "ha ha ha" as very young children could be frightened.

Ah! headlines........sigh.......

As a former shopping-mall Santa (see Member Photos section), I am dismayed. Never in my Santa life did I ever utter the syllables "ho ho ho" with the slightest hint of any kind of offensive double-meaning. Well, except maybe once...

Santa is occasionally visited by grownups (usually young adults) who want to have their picture taken for a laugh. In a very few cases, someone sat in my lap who might have been called a "ho."

One particular instance I remember quite well involved two young ladies in very low-cut clothing whose, er, appearances were enhanced by unnatually huge volumes of silicone. The photo was so hilarious I had the photographer make a print for me to keep: with one exotic-dancer type perched on each knee, Santa has such a wide grin on his face that his eyes are barely open. When I emailed my cousin Dave a copy, he came up with a very fitting title: "Eyes Wide Slut."

As an agnostic woman I do not find "ho ho ho" offensive nor do I mind being wished a Merry Christmas. It is what it is, fer chrissakes. People just need to unclench.

I think you're onto something, Amos. Let's ban Hamlet at once. Our children are in danger!!! ;-)

In fact, why don't we just ban everything that came out of our past human culture prior to, say, the year 2001? We need to protect the children from all those harmful influences. Ban Santa Clause, ban dwarves, elves, faeries, and angels, ban all that awful religious stuff, ban Dickens, Mark Twain, Robin Hood, King Arthur, Morris Dancing, the Big Bad Wolf, the Three Little Pigs, and Pinnochio too! (that disgusting lengthening nose of his is clearly an obscene phallic symbol)

Where is Pol Pot when we need him, you might ask?

Dear Gawd, of all the illiterate stupidities.

Maybe we should avoid performing Hamlet, too, because it has the word "prick" in it, and hearing that might disturb some neurotic zygote in the audience.

Well, here's a story from Australia that's good for a few laughs:

Santas in Australia's largest city have been told not to use Father Christmas's traditional "ho ho ho" greeting because it may be offensive to women, it was reported Thursday.

Sydney's Santa Clauses have instead been instructed to say "ha ha ha" instead, the Daily Telegraph reported.

One disgruntled Santa told the newspaper a recruitment firm warned him not to use "ho ho ho" because it could frighten children and was too close to "ho", a US slang term for prostitute.

"Gimme a break," said Julie Gale, who runs the campaign against sexualising children called Kids Free 2B Kids.

"We are talking about little kids who do not understand that "ho, ho, ho" has any other connotation and nor should they," she told the Telegraph.

"Leave Santa alone."

A local spokesman for the US-based Westaff recruitment firm said it was "misleading" to say the company had banned Santa's traditional greeting and it was being left up to the discretion of the individual Santa himself.
