Subject: RE: Catspaw -Working the Plan - UPDATE 19 Jan 2011 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 20 Jan 11 - 11:12 AM My university library has laptops for 24-hour loan and they're out all of the time. Even being able to borrow them occasionally for that long period can make work a lot easier. Good idea, Dan! We have a software they use to "wipe" data and reset the computers each time they're returned so data doesn't get left behind, etc. Take care, Pat! Sounds like they're going to make you do some work, but as long as you remember to wear a bathrobe that hospital gown shouldn't be too drafty as you're wandering the halls. I'd think twice about Rapaire's bean and cheese burritos - you don't need to launch yourself on a trajectory following Janie's moonbeams. :) SRS |
Subject: RE: Catspaw -Working the Plan - UPDATE 19 Jan 2011 From: olddude Date: 20 Jan 11 - 10:54 AM This machine belongs to Spaw but what I am going to try and do is see if I can get some other notebooks. I was thinking too many of our friends are crashing lately and doing long hospital or rehab stays. It would be nice to have some backup notebooks that we could lend people while they are recovering. Kinda like a library loan. I am not doing it with this machine as it belongs to Spaw but I will try to do something along those lines in the future. Notebooks are expensive and many of our friends don't have access to one when they end up doing the jail time in the hospital. Plus we are all aging sadly and the health problems that go with it are starting to surface way too often here. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw -Working the Plan - UPDATE 19 Jan 2011 From: katlaughing Date: 20 Jan 11 - 10:31 AM Not for a while, yet, Bruce. He will be at the acute rehab at least three weeks, then rehab where he will learn how to walk again, get his balance back, eat solid food, etc. Long ways to go, yet. |

Subject: RE: Catspaw -Working the Plan - UPDATE 19 Jan 2011 From: Dave'sWife Date: 19 Jan 11 - 11:53 PM I haven't been here in a long while due to my own serious illness but tell 'Spaw that he's beaten me by 1 degree F for the highest fever I've ever had and not died. I had 106 back in 1994 during a bout with Scarlet Fever. Spaw has to beat me at everything, eh? Prayers, hopes and love to both 'Spaw and Karen. I may wind up in hospital myself in a few days if the newer, better, stronger, meaner antibiotic doesn't turn me from Pumpkinhead back to normal. I think it will so I'll try and say high in food threads. Tell him I have a newish cat whose name is Holly and we named her that because when we found her as a kitten she was surviving but hunting and eating Crickets. He should get the joke whilst those under 40 usually look at me sideways like a puppy who has hear a high pitched noise. |

Subject: RE: Catspaw -Working the Plan - UPDATE 19 Jan 2011 From: Janie Date: 19 Jan 11 - 10:15 PM Why am I having these weird visions of Spaw playing a home recorded CD of Kat and Sins doing a rendition of Zappa's Catholic Girls? 'Spawser, as you become more coherent and inhabit this plane more fully, you are probably gonna get lots of wonderful cards and messages. None of them will likely be from me, 'cause I never get around to those good intentions. My good intentions tend to get sent up to the moon on a bright night to be bounced back down to the appropriate coordinates on earth. Moonbeams comin' at you every night! |

Subject: RE: Catspaw -Working the Plan - UPDATE 19 Jan 2011 From: katlaughing Date: 19 Jan 11 - 09:52 PM It can be healing, but you're right about it being painful, too. He had an appendectomy and had a feeding tube down his throat until they sliced open his throat, so I am guessing it needs to be as gentle as possible and, that may be the case for a long while, from Karen has told me. I think he's miserable and, of course, rarin' to go...with no fuel. Who'd ever think of that about Spaw?:-) |
Subject: RE: Catspaw -Working the Plan - UPDATE 19 Jan 2011 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 19 Jan 11 - 09:47 PM Laughter IS the best medicine, but if you've had some surgeries, it can really hurt. Remind me - what originally put Pat in the hospital? Is it something that laughter will hurt or harm? I came home after cancer surgery in 2000 and thought I'd try that "laughter" therapy and turned on reruns from a couple of television programs I'd always liked. Frasier and The Golden Girls were remarkably funny, and I would have to hold my stomach to laugh. So it doesn't need to be just movies. But if you're talking funny movies, over the holidays I put the National Lampoon christmas vacation movie in and my ex and my daughter's boyfriend apparently had never seen it. They were like deer in the headlights, with regular bursts of laughter. And the one that really made them squirm was Peter Sellers in Being There. SRS |

Subject: UPDATE 19 Jan 2011 From: katlaughing Date: 19 Jan 11 - 12:11 PM Well, well, well....seems he is doing much better! He did four hours on the trach mask, for his first time which met their goal. He got a little anxious and muscos-ey, but the respiratory therapist was so pleased, s/he wants to speed up the weaning. Karen thinks by next week, they should be able to cap the trach. He is still extremely weak, balance is gone, and he's a bit bewildered by just how much, but Karen tells him he will work through it, it's just going to take more time, this time. He ate REAL food, yesterday...tuna tettrazini. If he keeps that up, they will be able to take out the feeding tube. Karen is so excited and grateful to everyone. Dan, she says, "Yes please!" to skype, after I explained it to her. I do have a card addy, now: Please PM me for the address. As Art Thieme says, "Onward and upward!" |
