Many prayers for healing and comfort still going out. C'mon Spaw!! Neil and Christina |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-29 From: GUEST,Wesley S Date: 29 Dec 10 - 04:33 PM Spaw on Ice. There's a song in there somewhere... And I never thought I'd EVER want to hear about the condition of Spaws sputum. So there's a first time for everything. Thanks for keeping us posted Kat. |
Subject: UPDATE 12-29 From: katlaughing Date: 29 Dec 10 - 04:15 PM Just spoke with Sister Connie. Okay, good news, first: His sputum is now clear, so whatever they've been using to fight the infection in his lungs is working! His blood is also clear! They are kind of at a loss as to what is keeping his fever up. Tylenol is not keeping it down, so they have packed him in ice. He has a fever blister, so they've ordered an air cushion of his bum..talk about riding on air.:-) Because he's been on the vent and morphine for so long they can't really do a very good evaluation, from what I understand, so after much consultation, Karen gave them permission (tough decision for her), this morning, to do a tracheotomy, so he is still on the vent, but it's connected to the trach instead of going down his throat, which may improve things as they will be able to back off the morphine and he can communicate in writing. They've been having to keep him sedated so much on the morphine, it's been difficult. Even though this sounds dire, it will give them a better idea of what's going on. I probably will not hear from Karen, today. Connie took a few calls for her to do and she will be back at work, tonight. Tris and Michael continue to be great brothers and sons and taking care of home. I feel a little bit better about all of this, today. I think the trach and getting off the vent may actually prove to have been good timing. As Sister Connie said, we've seen him come back from the edge, so to speak, before, and I don't think he's used up nine lives, yet, plus he's got all those Karmic Brownie Points that big ol' heart of his has earned him. There ya go, folks. Please keep up the good work. luvyakat |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-28 From: jacqui.c Date: 29 Dec 10 - 04:12 PM I'm back in the USA, making it easier for me to head to Ohio and scare Mr Patterson out that bed, if needs be. Good thoughts and energies still heading that way, for Spaw and the family. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-28 From: open mike Date: 29 Dec 10 - 03:38 PM come on, light a match under that guy and let's launch him back to health and home...well, maybe not! when my daughter was born 28 years ago we had planned to have candles in the hospital room, but that was not allowed...due to the use of oxygen...in spaw's case it is for an entirely different (gas) reason. best wishes for recovery and return to your rambunctious self, SPAW!! visualizing healing for Pat, strength for Karen and growth for the boys. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-28 From: PoppaGator Date: 29 Dec 10 - 01:57 PM I've been away from Mudacat for so long, only occasionally checking in, that I missed this unfortunate news until just a couple of days ago. So I'm now praying/good-thinking along with everyone else; just sorry I didn't get on the job much earlier. What a great guy ~ the world needs more like him, can't afford to lose folks like Pat (or even to have him out of commission for more than a day or two at a time!) |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-28 From: rumanci Date: 28 Dec 10 - 08:23 PM The best of good wishes from me to both of you. One of you for being somebody who always makes me smile and to the other for putting up with him ALL of the time rum |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-28 From: Janie Date: 28 Dec 10 - 08:19 PM Not septic and stable. No change otherwise is much preferable to a change for the worst. Another little sigh of relief. Keep haulin' Spaw, and we will keep hauling along beside you. They made some changes to the website checker thingie at work, and as of this morning, the Cat is blocked - I guess because it is a social networking site. What that means, 'Spawser, is I'll be sending out thoughts of care and concern even more often, since I won't be able to peek in on the thread periodically during the day for reassurance. Even worry has it's upside! Karen, Michael, and Tristan, rest up and also feel all the care and love surrounding you. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12- From: KT Date: 28 Dec 10 - 04:46 PM Two most frequently spoken (or thought) words over last few weeks- "C'MON, SPAW!" |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-28 From: katlaughing Date: 28 Dec 10 - 04:15 PM You didn't sound gnasty gnu...just really concerned friend and I think I was a bit of a mummy.:-) I'm so used to cleaning up the litter boxes around here after him. I swear I will never, ever complain about it, ever again. I'd love it if he'd get in here and kick some up, right now, as a matter of fact. C'mon, Peaches...we need you, darlin'...luvyakat |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-28 From: gnu Date: 28 Dec 10 - 03:50 PM Sorry if I came off nasty... it was not my intention... just really pissed off about Pat not bouncing back like we all want him to do. He means a lot to many of of for many reasons. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-28 From: Amos Date: 28 Dec 10 - 03:49 PM He's only septic when he gets tanked. Somehow he manages to be in deep doodoo a lot of the time without that, though... A |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-28 From: katlaughing Date: 28 Dec 10 - 03:41 PM My apologies, gnu. My attempt to be funny fell flat. I'll leave it to you experts and yes, I agree, he would want you to do your best whether he is here or not. atb, kat |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-28 From: gnu Date: 28 Dec 10 - 03:07 PM NOT septic. That is great news. As far as me not making jokes because he can't defend himself, I am quite certain that he would want me to make as many jokes as possible either way... I just don't feel like it. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-28 From: katlaughing Date: 28 Dec 10 - 01:26 PM gnu, I look forward to you exercising your right...when he's back defending himself!**bg** |
Subject: UPDATE From: katlaughing Date: 28 Dec 10 - 12:55 PM Just spoke with Sister Connie. His bloodwork came back and he is NOT septic!! Yes!! On the other hand, everything is about the same, still vent, still morphine, still fever, haemoglobin is coming up very slowly, but we've been here before with that. When they scanned him they saw blood clots in his belly, but they also saw air pockets which may mean a different infection than the lung gunk. Karen is sleeping after a night of work. Connie will let her know I got an update from her and will leave it up to Karen as to whether she wants to call, tonight, or call if there is any change. MMario, I told Connie about your posting and she got chills up her back. Good to see you. kat |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-27 From: gnu Date: 28 Dec 10 - 12:52 PM Stable. Septic. Yeah, there's jokes there and I reserve the right to come back, of course, but I don't feel like it making any jokes at the moment. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-27 From: MMario Date: 28 Dec 10 - 11:24 AM Well - I've not been checking the 'cat - but this does explain why I had the urge to add 'spaw to the prayers at midnight service xmas.... |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-27 From: SINSULL Date: 28 Dec 10 - 08:43 AM What are you smoking, kat? Mouseholes? Big Paws? Too early in the morning for me. SINS |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-27 From: katlaughing Date: 27 Dec 10 - 10:41 PM I think Pat would like it if those of us who want to, and are able, would watch The Mousehole Cat and how she tamed the Storm Cat who had big cat paws. It's a beautiful story and animation in three parts on youtube. Some how it just kind of reminds me of what Pat is going through and it's neat she finds safe harbour, again. |

Subject: UPDATE 12-27 From: katlaughing Date: 27 Dec 10 - 07:50 PM I was just talking with Karen. She was in the room with Pat. He is out of it under morphine, but did try to open his eyes and I spoke to him of you all, just for a second whilst she held the phone to his ear. It's still too early in the evening for her to have spoken with anyone, but here's what she told me: he's stable, has a feeding tube, fever still up around 101.5 at 4p this afternoon. They did another blood culture which she will find out more about sometime this evening, before she goes to work. It will tell them if he is septic or not. (No jokes, please guys?:-) Tris went to work with the garbage guys, today, and earned ten bucks. He is a happy camper. Michael got to go see his girlfriend.:-) We're in a Holding Pattern for Patterson for now, folks.:-) |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-26 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 27 Dec 10 - 06:22 PM Spaw, Hospitals are one of the least restful places to hang out, and they're usually not warm enough. The television selection is poor, and some poor sod comes around at 3am and pokes you for more blood work. Is this any way to spend the holidays? Please overpower that infection, get the oxygen levels back where they're supposed to be, and get yourself out of that place! If you need an interim place to heal, we can always set up a new room in the Mudcat Recovery Ward and let you have Nurse Ratched all to yourself. Won't that be nice? SRS |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-26 From: Hollowfox Date: 26 Dec 10 - 11:32 PM Merry Christmas, Pattersons. Karen, I just started up a fresh $#@!-reduction candle for yuns guys, as they say here in Youngstown. This morning I had a gig as the liturgist in church. I don't know if the location during the prayer makes a difference or not, but wotthehell, it don't hurt, eh? Michael, I look forward to seeing some more of your artwork sometime. I'll see if Amy and I can stop by sometime. I'm proud of how well you've been handling this hard situation. Tris, I'm so proud of you being on your own for the night. It's not everybody who can do so well with a project like that. I love you all, Hollowfox/Mary |
