Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 6 Jan From: VirginiaTam Date: 07 Jan 11 - 02:21 AM @ Rapparee I know you know which Bunyan I mean. Willful obtuseness doesn't wear well on librarians. Best improve your wit, Pilgrim, lest your weak attempt at humour land you in a personal slough of despondency. You could do better with some sort of word play on bunions. Maybe take some instruction from Severn. :0} @ Pat Good to read that you are getting better. I hope the nurses have rose tinted specs at the ready for reading your first entry on that white board. Wouldn't want to blind them. Sending more healing thoughts your way. Thanks Karen and Kat for keeping us posted. |

Subject: UPDATE 6 Jan 2010 From: katlaughing Date: 06 Jan 11 - 09:35 PM Just spoke to Karen and it just keeps getting better!!! Fever is down, vitals are good...the nurses say it is time to get him up and m o v i n g! Still has the trach and they put in the vent at night for rest. Best sign is, he's getting antsy, trying to ask "when are they gonna do this and that" and going nuts 'cause no one can understand him. Karen is going to go get a small write on-wipe off board at the office store. I asked her didn't they have any there. She said they have them all over the hospital, just none for the patients. Gee, ya'd think? He is acting happier and his writing is getting stronger, so that will help, too. She will be talking to them tomorrow about where he will go for rehab. In a day or two, she might have an address for us to send cards to; she'll let me know. I feel badly, every time I've called, lately, she's been asleep! This time she needed to get up for work, so I didn't feel so badly, plus she was planning to call me anyway. This is GOOD news!! |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE better! From: VirginiaTam Date: 06 Jan 11 - 12:28 PM Aarrgghhh... don't mix up the johns. Bunyan is not in same league as Milton. Bunyan is an outhouse compared to Milton who is wonderful fully fitted ablutorium, with hot and cold running Little Pissants. I should say though, I got so frustrated in the middle of my Milton course that I actually did write him a Dear John letter. |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE better! From: Rapparee Date: 05 Jan 11 - 08:58 PM Okay, he's in for it now! ...With much interest I sat watching him. Savage though he was, and hideously marred about the face - at least to my taste - his countenance yet had a something in it which was by no means disagreeable. You cannot hide a fart. Through all his unearthly gaseous emissions, I thought I saw the traces of a simple honest heart; and in his large, deep eyes, fiery black and bloodshot bold, there seemed tokens of a spirit that would dare a thousand flatulent devils. And besides all this, there was a certain lofty bearing about the Ohioan, which even his uncouthness could not altogether maim. He looked like a man who had never cringed and never had had a creditor, nay, not even a dose of Beano. Whether it was, too, that his head being shaved to his ankles, his forehead was drawn out in freer and brighter relief, and looked more expansive than it otherwise would, this I will not venture to decide; but certain it was his head was phrenologically an excellent one and indeed his whole figure promised good head. It may seem ridiculous, but it reminded me of General Washington's head, as seen in the popular busts of him. It had the same long regularly graded retreating slope from above the brows, which were likewise very projecting, like two long promontories thickly wooded on top with a veritable Stromboli beneath. Queequeg was George Washington cannibalistically developed. |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE better! From: Rapparee Date: 05 Jan 11 - 10:09 AM ...There seemed no sign of common bodily illness about him, nor of the recovery from any. He looked like a man cut away from the stake, when the fire has overrunningly wasted all the limbs without consuming them, or taking away one particle from their compacted aged robustness of posterior exhalation. His whole high, broad form, and most especially his head, seemed made of solid bronze, and shaped in an unalterable mould, like Cellini's cast Perseus. Threading its way out from among his grey hairs, and continuing right down one side of his tawny scorched face and neck, till it disappeared in his clothing, you saw a slender rod-like mark, lividly whitish. It resembled that perpendicular seam sometimes made in the straight, lofty trunk of a great tree, when the upper lightning tearingly darts down it, and without wrenching a single twig, peels and grooves out the bark from top to bottom, ere running off into the soil, leaving the tree still greenly alive, but branded. Whether that mark was born with him, or whether it was the scar left by some desperate wound, no one could certainly say. By some tacit consent, throughout the voyage little or no allusion was made to it, especially by the mates. But once Tashtego's senior, an old Gay-Head Indian among the crew, superstitiously asserted that not till he was full forty years old did Ahab become that way branded, and then it came upon him, not in the fury of any mortal fray, but in an elemental strife at sea and, peering through the auger-holes in the wall of his shower-bath, it was determined to run completely down the front of his body, under the feet, and again up his back to meet as a circle does. Yet, this wild hint seemed inferentially negatived, by what a grey Manxman insinuated, an old sepulchral man, who, having never before sailed out of Nantucket, had never ere this laid eye upon wild Ahab, gave forth the opine that it was the track of a zipper. Nevertheless, the old sea-traditions, the immemorial credulities, popularly invested this old Manxman with preternatural powers of discernment. So that no white sailor seriously contradicted him when he said that if ever Captain Ahab should be tranquilly laid out - which might hardly come to pass, so he muttered - then, whoever should do that last office for the dead, would find a birth-mark on him from crown to sole and, pulling the tab of the opener, would allow him to again spring forth in life, as full and complete as before he went to sea. |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE better! From: gnu Date: 04 Jan 11 - 01:49 PM Thank goodness! Spaw... 2009 Chrysler 300 with all that fancy crap like a nav screen and voice recognition and so much of it that I'll never read the manualsss... I drove it two days ago in the daytime, parked it in the garage and shut the door, unlocked, when I got out. We had snow yesterday and the temp dropped to -10C last night. Today, it was locked and the key fob wouldn't open it. Valet key. Fob in the ignition and nada and I couldn't remove the fob. Boosted it. No problem. Checked the trunk to see if a thief had opened the trunk. Nope. The only thing I can think of it that the fob got "pressed" in my pocket in my house, the car started and when it shut off the climate control fan kept running or the park lights stayed on. Any thoughts? Take yer time getting back to me as I understand you are busy with more important things. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE better! From: ClaireBear Date: 04 Jan 11 - 01:37 PM A result like this is worth a whole New Year's Eve of the Dogwatch Nautical Band attempting (badly) to do Dylan: "How do you fee--eel?," "Oh-ho, we gonna fly down in the easy chair" (for some reason the boys fixated on that one), and "Take your shoes off, do not fear, bring that bottle over here" (I did my sexiest solo on that one). We're pretty sure you could hear how bad we were all the way to Maine, so we were surely quite audible in Ohio. The morphine probably just made it a touch more tolerable. But we're done now, so you can let up on the pain meds... Keep on keepin on, Spaw. So happy you're mending! Claire |
