Subject: RE: Getaway 07- general discussion/kibitzing - Part 2 From: Amos Date: 22 Oct 07 - 10:02 AM I think, in light of your fine decision, we should request Spaw to send your sister a doll as compensation. I think he has a few left over from that great adventure with Khandu last year... A |

Subject: RE: Getaway 07- general discussion/kibitzing - Par From: artbrooks Date: 22 Oct 07 - 08:23 AM This is Jenn. I am being maligned, as usual. Doll cult? He should live so long! Anyway, as soon as he pointed out the conflict, the issue was decided. Even I, even though it will break my own poor also doll- besotted (let's not go there) sister's heart, would much rather be at Getaway than exchanging doll bon mots with other people who are mostly there to sell stuff anyway. So let's all be kind, here, ok, and Fortunato, I think it's safe to read this thread. As safe as anything on Mudcat to the sensitive, anyway--Jenn |

Subject: RE: Getaway 07- general discussion/kibitzing - Par From: artbrooks Date: 17 Oct 07 - 11:11 PM Sound like a lot of s**t, Amos. I was accused of wearing a Tilly hat the other day, but was able to prove that it was an REI clone. We are still planning on '08, but herself just sprung on me that her doll cult is meeting in Portland, OR middle of October next. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 07- general discussion/kibitzing - Part 2 From: Amos Date: 17 Oct 07 - 10:46 PM These Tilley hats are special -- they come with an owner's manual, and a little packet of success stories, one of which was submitted by an animal keeper whose Tilley hat was stolen and swallowed by an elephant. He loved the hat so much he waited for it to re-appear, cleaned it up and continued wearing it. This happened three times!! The Tilley company was so impressed they offered him a brand new one of they could have the one that had been through the elephant three times for their product museum; the keeper was unimpressed and vowed he would never part with his hat. Unfortunately the tourists in Santa Cruz are less accomodating that way than elephants, A |

Subject: RE: Getaway 07- general discussion/kibitzing - Part 2 From: Amos Date: 17 Oct 07 - 12:55 AM It will be a new hat of the same model. I was so fond of it I had to replace it when it was stolen by a tourist along Santa Cruz' boardwalk -- if not eaten by an elephant. A |

Subject: RE: Getaway 07- general discussion/kibitzing - Part 2 From: Janie Date: 16 Oct 07 - 10:59 PM MMario m'luv - any new babies come due in fall of next year, tell their parents the youngin's are just gonna have to stay heathen 'til after the Getaway -AND- I believe the dates for next year are already set, so you can tell 'em all to schedule their fornicating accordingly! (Did I really just say that?) uhmmmm, or at least, the christening/baptism. Dang, Bobert. The FSGW finally found a place with heat for the sole purpose of keeping yer skinny little bluesman butt warm, and here you are, buggin' out two years in a row!. I'm plumb scared they'll move it a campground and change the date to January next year, just to spite you! Seriously, I will really miss you guys and Sins, and Ebbie and KT, and all the UK folks, and so many others that I have had the joy and pleasure of meeting once upon at least one Getaway. And I look forward to meeting Claire and any other lovers of the music that brings us all together. Amos, will you be sporting a new hat for us this year? (Not that last year's wasn't most handsome:>) Oh yeh. DON'T FORGET THE SILENT AUCTION! Janie |

Subject: RE: Getaway 07- general discussion/kibitzing - Part 2 From: Bobert Date: 16 Oct 07 - 07:40 PM Clair, Next year I will have either worked myself outta the pickle (3 major construction projects) or I'll be 6 feet in the cold, cold ground... Don't much matter... I'm a bluesman... Now if I ain't in the cold, cold ground I'll be there, prolly with my harp player... I'll just tell him we got booked to play up in Maryland, then surprise him with 3 days of insanity and lousy food... "Hey, R.W., can't ya' take a danged joke???" I promise.... B~ |

Subject: RE: Getaway 07- general discussion/kibitzing - Part 2 From: Bobert Date: 15 Oct 07 - 08:25 AM Well, having recieved an PM from a member of the organizing committee who assumed that I'd be in attendance to do my usual mini-concert and perhaps other stuff (think blues jam here...), sadly, I will not be attending this year... Okay, I'll admit that if Ebbie and KT had committed I prolly would have made more effort but the blues duo of wnich I am half is playing just about every weekend somewhere and this is the case with the Getaway weekend... Yeah, I'll miss the heck outta the folks who know perfectly well who they are so no reason to go down the list... You know who you are... But, hopefully, next year... Sniff... Subject: RE: Getaway 07- general discussion/kibitzing - Part 2 From: Ebbie Date: 14 Oct 07 - 03:01 AM Ron Davies, tonight a friend called to tell me that she had come across a CD I had given her a couple years back of KT's Mini Concert at the Getaway. She was marveling at the beauty of the violin's sound on River. Told her it was a viola and gave you credit. So if you ever meet Sandy from Juneau, you will find a ready made fan. Subject: RE: Getaway 07- general discussion/kibitzing - Part 2 From: Bill D Date: 11 Oct 07 - 12:19 PM Dani, Janie, Linda G.,...this use of paper for variable memory issues 'can' be a thorny one, but I have adopted the "if I can't tell with my eyes closed" philosophy as *I* get older and have fewer opportunities to sing in public...*grin* (Linda...you & I go to the same Open Sings, and YOU know that we do get those who can't even follow a tune or find the words even IF they are staring at the sheet...*sigh*...probably because this is only the 3rd time they have ever looked at the song.) That is sad...and tedious, and provides no enjoyment for the audience. I have a large collection of songs that I have known..or almost known...for years; and with a bit of help in my lap, I can usually get thru them just fine. The Getaway is an amazing place, with well-known musicians hob-nobbing with rank amateurs...and mostly getting along just fine. And most of those pros can remember when THEY were rank amateurs, and are pretty tolerant at this venue. It's a good idea to not attempt a song you really are not sure of and haven't practiced at all...but otherwise, SING and enjoy! See you soon! |

Subject: RE: Getaway 07- general discussion/kibitzing - Par From: jacqui.c Date: 11 Oct 07 - 09:54 AM I was just going to do "MICCA! CELLAR!" and then he back pedals like mad. MAYBE he can be forgiven, particularly if he manages to import some Mint Imperials this time. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 07- general discussion/kibitzing - Part 2 From: Linda Goodman Zebooker Date: 11 Oct 07 - 09:53 AM Yes, things I know quite well in my own livingroom, that I've done dozens and dozens of times can still disappear like smoke in a song circle which is filled with other people's music and keys in your ears. Or else you concentrate so hard on remembering that you can't make eye contact, etc, even if you've practiced this specifically. Having the stuff in your hands helps a lot. I'm glad of this advice also. Linda |
Subject: RE: Getaway 07- general discussion/kibitzing - Part 2 From: GUEST,Dani Date: 11 Oct 07 - 05:40 AM Bill, I am so relieved to hear you say that. I think that's a very humane guideline. Some people, like me, only get an opportunity like the Getaway once in a blue moon, and the next verse doesn't stick where it's supposed to ; ) Thanks for that. I have SO MUCH respect for music you do and encourage. If your standards prevailed, the world (not just the folkie one, either) would be a nicer place. Dani |
