From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 12 Dec 08 - 04:58 AM I went to the Coliseum last night to ensure that sufficient supplies of beer and wine had been ordered for the Ceilidh, they asked if I knew what sort of numbers would be attending on the Monday evening, so who's going to the Ceilidh????? As for the beer I told them LOTS, they can get it on a sale or return basis |

Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Jock O' Dreams Date: 04 Dec 08 - 01:04 PM Anne and myself will be there as we are sharing a house with Merek @ Dary for the week! I shall be wearing my Kilt on Hogmanny and my rendition of "Donald whar's yer troosers" used to bring many special requests! Mostly to sing it somewhere else! Thats why I now live in Portsmouth! Looking forward to a memorable week! Lang mae yer Lum Reek! Jim |
Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: GUEST,Ann N Date: 04 Dec 08 - 02:52 AM Yes it's Ann the concertina player :) Unfortunatly Stu's health has deteriorated rapidly this past month, he's in Whitby hospital this week for respite, back home tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for the kind thoughts. Cheers Ann |

Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: r.padgett Date: 03 Dec 08 - 11:16 AM Is that Ann the concertina player? Sorry to hear of Stuart's illness and hope he is able to rally his health All the best Ray |
Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: GUEST,Ann N Date: 02 Dec 08 - 02:46 PM I shall be here already as we live here but it's unlikely that we'll be able to see much of anyone as Stuart is seriously ill. Some of you will know Stu from when he was Horwich's bass drummer and if he's well enough to be wheeled down to The Station for an hour or so over the New Year I'll try to get him there as he'd love it. |
Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: GUEST,Barnacle Date: 02 Dec 08 - 01:39 PM Mmmm ... should we, shouldn't we? Have really enjoyed the last few years - a good excuse to make a fool of oneselves and to bring in the New Year amongst like-minded folks, all making fools of themselves, too - just look at the photographs!!! |

Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Dave Hanson Date: 02 Dec 08 - 05:17 AM Andy Stewart has been having difficulty leaving the graveyard, so he won't make it this this year, or next, or the one after that. eric |
Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: gnomad Date: 02 Dec 08 - 05:05 AM Mostly Endeavour, Gillie. Just a few at the top from the Colliseum. Town is looking lovely today, must go remind folks to lock up their daughters etc in time for the invasion. |

Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Mrs.Duck Date: 01 Dec 08 - 06:08 PM Sadly we will not be up again this year. The early curfew for kids poses problems for us. We might try to get up for a day though so when the events a sorted knowing what's happening when would be useful. |

Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: r.padgett Date: 01 Dec 08 - 02:59 PM Yes Hazel, should be interesting to hear Carl who was a guitarist accompaniment to Jane Threlfall Ray |
Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: nutty Date: 01 Dec 08 - 01:31 PM Apologoes it was Jane Threlfall that Carl used to perform with - not Amanda |
Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: nutty Date: 01 Dec 08 - 01:30 PM Carl and Leon Hogsden are performing at Mickelby Folk Club on Saturday Evening. This should be a really exceptional night as Carl has rarely performed in the north since splitting with Amanda Threlfall. |

Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Silas Date: 29 Nov 08 - 06:23 AM Sounds good - no chance of getting Andy Stewart to come as well I don't suppose? |
Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: GUEST,Joe G Date: 29 Nov 08 - 06:13 AM Well, Silas, if it is the same as when I used to go (hich it seems to be) its a really friendly gathering of folkies singing in the pubs (Station & Endeavour?)lunchtime and night most days but also as mentioned by Raggytash and Ray there will be a ceildih, treasure hunt and Neil's fiendishly difficult music quiz to give a bit of variety. I've really missed going for the last few years as it is simply the most relaxing way of spending the week after Xmas Do come if you can - everyone is very welcoming of new faces. |
Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: r.padgett Date: 29 Nov 08 - 06:13 AM Well Silas the Whitby ff (week and Moor and Coast) has a large fringe of singers players and friends as well as quite a number of retired folky people who think that Whitby with all its pubs and generally welcoming music and song scene is an alternative at new Year to watching Andy Stewart on the television So for a number of years a crew from Yorkshire/Notts and sometimes further afield go to Whitby for a few days to celebrate and see the new year in Ray |
Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Silas Date: 29 Nov 08 - 05:44 AM OK you got me now.... what gives at Whitby over the new year then? |
Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: r.padgett Date: 29 Nov 08 - 04:01 AM Its going to be colder than usual looking at this small crowd! Ray |
Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: r.padgett Date: 28 Nov 08 - 04:24 AM Booker Padgett Deakin Speake (John, Ray, Nigel and Malcolm) The Barnsley Lads and Malcolm (of Speake and Lowe) Hope its a bit warmer, forget what the theme of the fancy dress is although Steve Robinson told me on Monday Jude (Lady Aelfreda) is I believe in warmer climes at the mo' but I presume will be co-ordinating proceedings No doubt the treasure hunt and very difficult quizzes will all happen Ray |
Subject: RE: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 28 Nov 08 - 03:58 AM Don't think there is much change from when you last came Joe, Treasure hunt organised by Wombat and myself. Hopefully on the 29th there will be a ceidlieh at the Coliseum, scratch band etc etc. The usual suspects will be in attendance. |
Subject: So who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Joe G Date: 27 Nov 08 - 04:55 PM I'm going for the first time for about 8 or 9 years (hurrah!)and I know a few here used to be regulars and may still be so. We've splashed out this year and (hopefully) got a warm comfy house rather than the previous freezing flats so really, really looking forward to it. Only downside is that I won't be able to drink as much nowadays - though I can still see a few sliding down over the week! |
