Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: GUEST,Canberra Chris Date: 16 May 07 - 09:46 AM Sorry to have been off-line, and on non-cookie as I can't get into my regular internet access so can't get PMs. Amazing driving schedule so far between Kent and Cornwall, everyone wonderful, and things falling into place for the Shiny Bum tour. We are really looking forward to Bude, only regret that our schedule also has the Rochester Good Intent gig on the Sunday of the same weekend (be there from noon if over east). I am still quartering the countryside setting things up, about to head from Redhill back west to Exeter, then back again to pick up incoming Bums from Heathrow early Friday. we are also performing for UK 'shiny bums', at the Dept for Transport, National School of Government, and Met Office, partly with thanks to Herga Kitty, whose cover I won't blow. The Ryan Shiny Bums have been to Herga and met Kitty, while I have been preoccupied imitating a table tennis ball across the width of England - no complaints about the views! Thanks to all with arrangements so far, we will try to live up to your hospitality. Canberra Chris |
Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: My guru always said Date: 16 May 07 - 04:28 AM Bless you Geordie - would be lovely to have a bit of a sing with your guitar one day, looking forward to it! Really looking forward to the Festival, especially getting to see the 'Shiny Bums'!! Staying at the Rugby Club in the Van, anyone else there or will we be on our own? We'll be stopping down in the Cornwall area for the following week as we're going to a sing in Devon the weekend after, so we'll be pottering around doing tourist stuff & looking for singing. Hope to bump into Breezy and possibly Fleggy on Padstow harbour during that week, but all other suggestions will be gratefully received. May be off-line for a while as I'll be wiping our hard drive again tomorrow in the hopes we can get it to re-partition properly this time. If I can't get it working this weekend then I'll check in again from work on Monday, so don't worry if I'm not around for a few days! Would be nice to keep this thread up near the top if possible. |

We perhaps ought to keep the one we're on for Festival stuff, hope you don't mind me pointing that out! |
Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: Steve Shaw Date: 14 May 07 - 08:58 AM What's the format at the folk club, Lucy? Do Friggin' Riggin' still play at the Falcon? |
Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: Hawker Date: 13 May 07 - 08:20 PM Steve, Bude folk Club opened its doors on the 22nd April at The Falcon, Bude, The first one was a quiet affair, as it wasn't widely advertised, as we sort of just bit the bullet and went for it within a couple of weeks. The second one was tonight, it was well advertised, verbally, with posters, on Mudcat and in The Cornish and Devon Post, (local paper) The advertising obviously worked 'cos the room was packed! We were lucky to be blessed with Canberra Chris' presence from Australia (one of the Shiny Bum Singers) What a lovely chap and what a lovely voice! we really are in for a treat! The festival is unfunded, so we are not paying for ads, there are press releases out for this week, so you should see something then, The local Gazette had something in last week, Posters are out and being posted as we speak, as are flyers and the like, As part of the festival guest list, perhaps you would like some, to ditribute, i'll leave some with Emma at the Tree when I visit on Wednesday. Hope to see you at the next folk club, on the 10th June! Cheers, Lucy |

Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: Steve Shaw Date: 13 May 07 - 07:10 PM Thank you for pointing me to the correct link there, Hil. I am in fact one-third of Three In The Bush. Our home pub is The Tree. Many moons ago there was a folk club there run wonderfully by John Maughan (aka The Boscastle Busker), but for the last ten years or more there's been a fortnightly session revolving around the three of us but with plenty of support. |
Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: Steve Shaw Date: 13 May 07 - 07:01 PM And what's the "Bude Folk Club?" |
Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: Cats Date: 13 May 07 - 05:24 PM I must agree that the line up is really impressive. Real quality songwriters and performers ~ and I'm not including me in that either. Dee, give it a try. You will be impressed. |
Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: My guru always said Date: 13 May 07 - 05:16 PM Hi Steve, if you click the link in the second (not the first post, that didn't work) post of George's on this thread you'll get into the web-page he's created. I checked earlier & it's working fine! Posters and card flyers were at the Fox and Hounds Song & Ale this weekend and Lucy will be hard at work sorting stuff this week after the meeting at Bude Club tonight. As soon as Lucy knows what can be done I'm sure she'll let us all know and I'll be looking forward to hearing you play over the weekend. Maybe if there's a time you won't be available you could let her know? As a registered member you can send a 'PM' (private message) to her, just click the Blue 'PM' next to her name 'Hawker', at the top of one of her posts. Cheers, Hil |
Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: Steve Shaw Date: 13 May 07 - 03:46 PM Hi Lucy I'm the bloke who plays the harmonica every other Friday at The Tree (hello, howya!). I've spent the last half hour trying to find out anything at all (venues, guests, etc.) about the folk festival but to no avail. The website link don't work! All I know is that I'm playing at The Tree with a couple of other fellers on the Friday night. I've scoured the latest Stude and Bratton and can find nowt. Where's the publicity?? Cheers! Steve |

I'll be looking out for you, bermuda shorts notwithstanding, and will try to keep your fan club in line - so you can issue hugs *grin* Well done Lucy, for letting George loose on the web on Bude's behalf!! Missed you this morning but am glad to see that you're somewhat refreshed. Enjoy Club tonight and I hope you don't get too frazzled over the next couple of weeks. Really enjoyed hearing you sing again Girlie!! Dee, George Wilson is indeed the 'Mighty George Wilson' from Hampshire, and is known as the loveable 'Geordie-Peorgie' here on the MudCat. Oh, and Hi - I'm Hilary Ward, almost completely unknown *I'll get me coat* |

Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: Leadfingers Date: 13 May 07 - 09:53 AM I dont know ALL the singers on the list either , but if the ones I dont know are as good as the ones I DO know , that is a pretty good line up ! It ALMOST makes me wish I wasnt in America that weekend , but will be looking at it as a possibility for next year ! |
Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: Hawker Date: 13 May 07 - 09:14 AM Chris Just phoned, is on his way to Bude for the folk Club Tonight! Be there!!!!!!! Cheers, Lucy |
Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: Hawker Date: 13 May 07 - 09:13 AM Well Dee, as a free festival, You wouldn't really expect to get the HUGE professional names, but I have to say that I am delighted with the line-up, who are, as George says, the quality layer in the non-full time professional artist category. I know that those coming will enjoy what we have to offer, and what makes it great for me is that not only are they worthy of being there, they are all nice people too! There are many unsung heroes in folk music, quality acts that never leave their county boundaries, They all contribute to the rich tapestry that Folk Music is, and for me are what folk music is all about. You can pay big money to go and see your big names, but I have to say sometimes it doesnt mean it will be good! Wkkipedia says: The Tech Multimedia Music Dictionary defines folk as "music of the common people that has been passed on by memorization or repetition rather than by writing, and has deep roots in its own culture A festival is an event, usually staged by a local community, which centers on some unique aspect of that community. Hopefully we have ticked those boxes, and thats what we are offering! Cheers, Lucy |
Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: Herga Kitty Date: 13 May 07 - 09:00 AM Glad to hear Chris Clarke has landed safely - the other Shiny Bums should be arriving in Britain this week. Kitty |
Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: George Papavgeris Date: 13 May 07 - 08:55 AM I understand, Dee. Most of them would be "unknowns" to all but those in a given geographical spread, as they are not regular "touring" artists, or "big names". But as I get about the country touring, I have got to meet, or at least hear of, most of those on the list. They represent the quality layer in the non-full-time-professional artist category. Well worth listening to, and twice the value given the price of the ticket (zero). |
Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: Anne Lister Date: 13 May 07 - 08:51 AM Dee, come along and listen - and then you can be familiar with ALL the names on the list! I'm certainly looking forward to meeting some new faces as well as some old friends. Anne (Lister) |
Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: GUEST,Dee Date: 13 May 07 - 08:47 AM Well I thought I knew most artists on the folk scene but I only recognise four of the names on the Bude artists list. Nineteen are complete unknowns. And it maybe twenty unknowns if the 'George Wilson' listed isn't the mighty George Wilson from Hampshire. |
Subject: RE: FREE Bude (UK) Folk Festival 25-27 May From: GUEST,HAWKER (cookieless) Date: 13 May 07 - 08:15 AM I love you George! What a star! Thank you so much. What a line-up it is! Thank you all so much for your kindness and generosity _ couldn't have got this far without you. Things this end as you are all probably able to understand have been somewhat fraught, with a crashed computer, the death of a good friend with a Funeral on Thursday at which I have to write and read the eulogy to get through - and family members having strokes I have not really known whether I was coming or going! I am now on my daughters laptop, have had a weekend away on dartmoor at the fox & hounds with superb singing and good company and am back feeling refreshed and de-stressed! Bear with me for today, I have a meeting before the Bude Folk Club tonight, to sort out the final arrangements and then we will be able to answer all those programming and camping questions properly! Whatever people say, Mudcat may not always be sweetness and light but you really are all a great bunch of people, I am honoured to know you, be it personally or as e-friends, and throughout the past not too brilliant week, I have had a great bunch of friends lifting me up and carrying me, it has been much appreciated, This is what Mudcat is all about. Cheers, and thanks all (but especially George! - and Roger who started the begging thread for me!) Lucy (who is cookieless!) |

Lucy, I have you as contact for camping, pending alternative contact details. See you there - it's one hell of a lineup! I'll be the one in the Bermuda shorts (not). |
