Subject: RE: BS: I'm going under the knife tomorrow From: Little Robyn Date: 12 May 10 - 11:40 PM Mitch here, just reporting that Robyn's had the surgery and is recovering pretty well. Straight afterward she was looking a bit blue, but the methylene blue they inject to trace the lymph nodes will do that to you. It looks as though the worst (for a musician) hasn't happened, as she still has full sensation and control in her arm, so she's now looking forward with confidence to getting back into playing at the session and the Morris. Thanks for all your good wishes - it's great to have a worldwide support group. |
Subject: RE: BS: I'm going under the knife tomorrow From: LilyFestre Date: 12 May 10 - 10:35 PM :) Good Morning Sunshine. I'm hoping that you are able to get some sleep at the hospital, that you have a compassionate medical team and that you are gentle with yourself. Lots of love coming your way. Michelle |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm going under the knife tomorrow From: Stilly River Sage Date: 12 May 10 - 09:43 PM You're probably out of surgery as I write, and wondering what it was you drank last night to give you such a hangover. ;-/ You certainly played this one "close to the vest," so to speak. But do let us know more about how you're doing, if you want, and start a thread if that will help. It becomes your own personal rooting section that way. :) SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm going under the knife tomorrow From: VirginiaTam Date: 12 May 10 - 11:04 AM What Michelle said! And a follow of her thread LilyFestre - great oncology numbers... may be of help, especially as insight into what kinds of fears, hopes and relief you may face. Especially how to meet the monster with grace. uumm also I think Robyn is in New Zealand, but there are probably similar support networks there. |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm going under the knife tomorrow From: LilyFestre Date: 12 May 10 - 10:24 AM I'm going through chemo myself right now....had my surgery back in January. I don't have breast cancer but I'm beginning to think cancer is cancer......it effects each of us different and the same in a very unique way. I've cried, stomped, carried on, made new friends, found places of hope when I was sure there was none to be had, figured out what's really important (or not) in my life and that my imagination is not the best friend I thought it was. I've also found support, love, prayers, friendship and an occassional ass kicking right here at Mudcat.....all pretty much when I needed them. If you ever want to talk, feel free to PM me. In the meantime, eat the best as you can to fortify your body, get registered with the American Cancer Society...they have free wigs, will give you up to $300.00 towards transportation costs and can be very helpful. Read all you can about the specific cancer you have, treatments available, what to expect....knowledge is power, especially in the medical field. Lots of love, prayers and a shoulder to lean on if you need one. XOXOXOOX Michelle |

They've found it, and are dealing with it. Best of luck, lass! Your body will tell you when it's ready to play music again, so don't try before it's ready, or you'll end up pulling something. Subject: BS: I'm going under the knife tomorrow From: Little Robyn Date: 12 May 10 - 03:11 AM I found a lump, it was squashed, scanned, photographed, and biopsy'd just before Easter. Cancer! So tomorrow morning I'm off to the hospital where they'll cut it all off. It should be gone by lunchtime! It should only take two nights in hospital so I hope to be back at Mudcat very soon. How do I feel about it? I'm absolutely terrified! But they say it must be done so here goes a new experience. The experts say I should be back to work in a couple of weeks (but some of my colleagues are planning for my final days already). I am not going to die of breast cancer!!! My family don't do that – they all have heart attacks and I was mentally preparing for my turn when this thing jumped up and hit me. I don't know how long before I'll be able to play my pipes again and I don't think I can manage morris tunes on my piano accordian for awhile either. I have a few books lined up to enjoy and my brother has sent me a set of DVDs of the Poldark TV series from many years ago so I'm intending to enjoy this forced holiday. And tonight we're off to the Rose & Shamrock for the local session (no I won't be drinking anything alcoholic) and that will probably be my last chance for a wee while. See you later, Robyn |
