Hard to argue with Ry Cooder but Rick Fielding and Tony Quarrington are also world class even if most of the world doesn't know it. They played together in Toronto tonight like they do most Mondays (except for next week which is a holiday) at Hugh's Room.

Even Duckboots, who has heard a bit of picking over the years, couldn't believe the sounds Rick and Tony got out of their guitars tonight when they played without the band. They seemed to be encouraging each other to new heights.

I saw Dean McGraw and Peter Ostroushko Saturday night. It was billed as their final concert together after 14 years. I had never seen McGraw before. The range of sounds he coaxed out of his acoustic guitar was quite incredible. Ostroushko is a superb mandolinist and fiddler.

Yes Matt, Steve was in Toto. But he was also one of top studio guitarists around before, during, and maybe after Toto. His webpage is Here! I haven't actually looked at it yet (just found it on google).

A lot of the above. Also, Sam McGee (of the McGee Brothers). I was listening to John Lee Hooker today on the radio - a tribute program - I was stunned. I never paid much attention to him before, I was really missing something.

I know there are similar threads and the "What do u like" thread today is what got me to the point of asking. Glenda listed a lot of the groups we play with when I work with her for practice but I particularly like the above listed guitarists.

Thanks for answering. I see several I know and some I do not.

Bob

I'm sure we've had similar threads before but Chris Newman remains my favourite. Another favourite of mine: Paul Airy from the Bangor (N Wales) session - a complete unknown but the best accompaniest of Irish music in a session environment that I have ever met.
