Point of order cllr!
Leadfingers should be in the "best fancy dress" & "best time warp"
sections, not the "cross dress" section!

I think leadfingers should get best cross dresser 'cos he dresses up a lot for themed evenings and the like and he is very dapper in his coloured coordinated shoes, waistcoats and cravats and sometimes he gets very very cross especially when he finds out he has been nominated for best cross dresser

If it's not too late and I know I'm biased, but I want to nominate Kathy Wallis in the best Folk Drama for her one woman performance of 'Spirit in the Storm - the True story of Joan Wytte.' I've seen her do it 4 or 5 times now, in places as diverse as Sidmouth Festival to the room where Joan's body was kept in the witchcraft museum for all those years, to a small local history group, and she just is magic. At the end of the performance she leaves everyone feeling peaceful but the emotional roller coaster she takes you on is something else. Absolutely stunning.

OK, my head's getting too hot and is in danger of exploding, so I'll take my thinking cap off!! Here are my nominations for the following Classic Awards:

PUB/CLUB FOLK SINGER OF THE YEAR: George Papavgeris
PUB/CLUB MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR: Breezy
BEST "NON COMMERCIAL" GROUP / DUO: Capella / Lynne Heraud & Pat Turner / Splott Man and Dame Patti can't decide between them, they're all Fab!
BEST "NON COMMERCIAL" CD: Hissyfit, Sweet Minerva
HORIZONTAL AWARD (Best drinker): Bill McKinnon as nominated by bubblyrat, perfect choice!
BEST FOLK CLUB: AnchorFolk, Byfleet
BEST PUB SESSION (Regular): Good Intent, Rochester as nominated by Girl Friday
BEST PUB SESSION (Festival): Radway, Sidmouth
BEST FOLK FESTIVAL: Miskin as already nominated by just about everyone, of course!
BEST FOLK DRAMA (the "We do it in the road award"): Unsung Heroes as already nominated by Cats (who just has to be biased, but not surprisingly so) and MiskinMan
BEST REGULAR DANCE EVENT: Herbaceous Border as nominated by Splott man
BEST LOCAL FOLK MAGAZINE: Unicorn

and now for the Newer Awards:

BEST SONG & ALE: Travelling Folk
BEST CROSS-DRESSER: Skipy hands down, sorry Andy!

I have to suggest that the SPECIAL AWARD as proposed by Cats should be appropriately re-named as: BEST AND MOST DETERMINED AGAINST ALL THE ODDS SESSION

And where, oh where are the Nominations for:
BEST FESTIVAL SINGAROUND - mine would be for Nelly Dean's at Miskin!

Keep up the Nominations Folks - we've a feww weeks before IanC has the chore of compiling them so we can do our voting for these Pretigious Awards!!

Miskin Man - the young girl is Emily, the daughter of Jon Maughan, well known as the Boscastle Busker. Not only do they all play and sing, she is an up and coming songwriter too. Emily, Jon and Cheryl [mum] plus Graham King from the Museum all were part of the keeping it alive sessions.

Hey Cats, I'm with you on that one..
There was a programme last night on the big eye in the corner about freak weather and of course it had a good bit about Boscastle. They interviewed a young resident female. In the background was a left handed acoustic guitar or two and Im sure a melodeon on the floor. I reckoned she was a folkie and later on they used a bit of her singing. Is she part of that intrepid bunch.
Incidentally Jo Vosp. gave Jillie and I the tune Boscastle Breakdown, which we just love playing on our English connies. If I can play and cry at he same time we would love to play it in Boscastle for the regulars.
Andy

I would like to suggest a Special Award for the Singers and Musicians at the Wellie in Boscastle. This would have been more appropriate last year but we didn't have an awards so lets go for it this year. After the flood in 2004 when Boscastle was devastated and the ground floor of the Wellie totally washed away, they decided that nothing was going to stop them singing there on a Wednesday night. Nothing did. Every week, without exception, they gathered at the Wellie amongst the rubble and mud, by the fires made from the pieces of wood from the flood, inside or out regardless of the weather ~ and sometimes that was horrendous rain and hail, or bitterly cold ~ and sang. Perhaps only for half an hour but they sang, making sure that the sessions would continue. The Wellie is fully open now and has been for about a year [hence last years award] and Boscastle is slowly recovering. The sessions never stopped. I do think that they deserve a mention for fortitude.
