I have the same question.

What's the film.
The film (Black and White) seemed to have been made in the 50's or early 1960's. Two brothers come back to their home town after serving in World War Two (possibly the US Navy) and find their quiet little town has gone to wreck and ruin and they attempt to remove the nasty element that took their town over. Any ideas ?

Thanks in anticipation.

Erskine Caldwell the precursor of John Steinbeck? Contemporaries would be more correct I think. They were born about a year apart (Steinbeck, the older), and had published about the same time the early works that set their fame.
The years have been much kinder to Steinbeck than Caldwell, I believe. His works often appear in new editions--I think Penguin published many for the centennial of his birth--while Caldwell has been basically overlooked.
The film of GLA was a hoot!

Thank you katlaughing.I didn't know about any of what Caldwell went through either.I clicked on you're WIKI Write-up.Amazing!
It does mention Buddy Hackett and Michael Landon.
I didn't see the movie,but it's a book I go back to often.
Some say he was the precursor of John Steinbeck.Maybe there are some thoughts on that subject.

David

I think you are right, RangerSteve. The WIKI Write-up of it mentions an albino, Michael Landon, being used for finding treasure on the farmer's land. Until I read the wiki entries, I had no idea what Erskine Caldwell went through when the novel was published. Incredible!

It sounds like "God's Little Acre", which was made back in the 50's, I believe. I forgot most of the cast, although Buddy Hackett played a rare serious role, and a very young Michael Landon had a small role as the albino. If the movie you're thinking of was in black and white, I'm pretty sure this is the one you want.

Checking at the IMDB, Independent Movie Database, using "ought to find an albino" several movies come up HERE. Maybe it is one of them?

Inputting 'film, oil, albino' into Google I got this:

I'm trying to track down some info about a film I saw years ago. The part I remember particularly was where somebody was digging holes all over his land, searching for oil. A bloke comes along and says something like 'you ought to get yourself an albino - they can smell oil'. It may have been in a Western setting I think. Any ideas anyone?
